Best gas in SoCal?
There's a theory that ethanol (or some other evil gas additive) is the culprit behind the n54's failing HPFPs. I don't want to get into that discussion here, cuz I don't think anyone knows for sure.
With that said, is there any consensus as to which gas is the best? Most octane... best at keeping injectors clean... least likely to kill the HPFP... whatever. I remember 10 or more years ago, alot of gearheads thought Union 76 was the way to go. But lately I haven't heard anyone express a strong opinion one way or the other.

Any particular reason for those two...?
Chevron, IIRC, promotes itself on the strength of Techron, supposedly an injector-cleansing additive. No idea whether there's any substance to that. Not sure what Shell's claim to fame is. Guess I'm really wondering if it's all just the same stuff in different containers, or if it's worthwhile going the extra mile to fill up with a particular brand of gas.

Here are some top tier gasoline retailers:
Chevron Texaco MFA Oil Co. Conoco Phillips 66 76 Entec Stations Shell The Somerset Refinery, Inc. Kwik Trip / Kwik Star Aloha Petroleum Tri-Par Oil Co. Anyways i doubt anyone will have any scientific data to disprove the fact that all the gasoline within it's tier are the same. (Just different branding and yes some companies like chevron add detergents to their gas more so than other companies i.e. techron) |

Gas isn't exactly what octane the pump says. So go somewhere that's always busy cause that way they refill the tanks more.
A trucker isn't going to NOT completely empty his tanker, he will put the rest of his 87 octane in the 91 or the 89. And vice versa with all the octanes. But I go with chevron! |

I've been using Chevron myself lately, which seems to be a popular choice. Thx for the validation on that.
Guess I'll have to keep an eye open for Shell, too. That hasn't been on my radar but also gets positive reviews. Do any of the popular brands offer anything higher than 91 octane? That's the highest I see around town, but maybe I'm missing something.
