Black Lower Front Grills for e92?

How are most of you guys blacking out the lower front grill on your e92 3-series?

Are you all spray painting them or simply replacing them with the 328i's lower grills??

I actually pulled mine off the car and simply sprayed them. I used about 4 coats and then re-installed them. I have my bumper off the car all the time it seems like, so it was easy to do with the bumper off.

I was going to take my bumper off, but ended up just using painter's tape. There are various ways to do it, but it truly only took me 45 minutes. You can use a sponge brush to apply the paint as well (which is especially good for touching up the edges). When using the brush, however, don't apply too much paint! There are DIYs on the forum as well that incorporate the different methods with great instructions.

1 can of Krylon for Plastics + brushes/sponges.

Turns out perfect. 328 ones don't work if you have an oil cooler. You'll either have to modify them or buy pre-modified grilles.

Too much of a pain IMO to swap out. Just mask off and paint. Take your time with the masking, proper prep work is key.

i took off the bumper today and pulled the pieces off and sprayed them matte black with standard auto trim paint, looks great! pulling the bumper off is a b***h tho!! 30+ bolts, be, make sure you remove the headlight washer caps before pulling the whole bumper off! almost ruined the springs that make it go back into place!

will the 328i grills fit a 335 without any issues?

or does the oil cooler get in the way?
