320D lumpy start
I have noticed more and more of late, our 320D starts up REALLY lumpy in the mornings.
Not necessarily in the ridiculous cold mornings (even though it did sound like it was on 1 cylinder then) but even these milder mornings......it splutters and blatters for like 30 seconds and then its fine. I dont EVER remember it doing that before. Now......could this be down to the remap? What else could be causing this? It doesnt feel very BMW when it starts like a Massey Ferguson. I am contemplating getting it un-mapped this week as i am worrying about things breaking and i have convinced myself that the engine is more rattly after a year of driving it remapped. I would also like to point out that i do listen to the engine FAR too much and its probably fine. Any and all advice appreciated chaps Regards Andy |

Glowplug(s) glowplug control are possible candidates. It can also be a typical sign of injector wear and/or poor spray pattern, often smooths as you warm. But as you mention the engine rattles more, I assume you mean combustion knock, not a mechanical knock, it is likely injector issues.
Wise to have a diagnostic check. Smooth running and leak off tests could be needed once you have some indication if it is injector related. If it is glowplugs, that will show up as well. HighlandPete |
