Terry does have an n55 on order for March delivery but that doesn't mean it will be tunable without leaving obvious evidence of tampering. You could be in for a very long wait or it might just be a few months.....nobody knows. The only thing we do know is BMW has had a long time to put in place measures that could make undetectable tuning very difficult...whether they have done this or not, we'll find out soon enough.

I'll bet money that this one will take the tuners awhile to get around. I'm sure it was bmw's top priority when they redesigned the motor that will replace the N54.

To the OP. As stated above the "is" model has a tweaked version of the N54 not the N55

As everyone else has stated, the 335iS is not getting the N55, it is keeping the good ol' N54 that has proven to be able to hold decent numbers.

The main point, shouldnt be if tuners will be able to get the N55 tuned, but how much power they can make. The n54 was VERY responsive to mods, many are guessing this wont be true with the N55.

Its pretty much a given that the N55 will be tuned, but like mentioned the question is how much reliable power can be extracted. Mike |

well put. i always would choose a N54 over the N55. hmm ... i have a N54 already, so nothing to buy . wait - N54 turbo upgrades ? the N54 is proven in pretty good tuning capabilities and serious power-gains. tunes and bolt-ons are tested and available. why downsizing (IMO) to the N55 ? |

I guess it would be a good mistake if he thought that, and you won't hear that very often!

It took 3 years for the N54 to get where we are in the 11's. How long do you think the N55 will take to get there. If you are performance orientated stick with the N54 for now. Only time will tell about the N55. Good choice with sticking with the N54 and additional cooling properties of the is model. Go to n54tech.com for all the JB question's. |
