Orange Peel Removal
Has anyone local taken their BMW somewhere to get the orange peel removed? I'm having minor issues with orange peel on my front and rear bumpers after getting them resprayed, but then I just thought about the peel on the entire car. I didn't know if it made sense to take it to a bodyshop and have them wet sand the entire vehicle and remove the orange peel. Thoughts?
Thanks, Mike

i would bring it to MAC if you want to get it removed or a really good body shop. being a detailer, i get asked this all the time, but never want to attempt to wet sand paint and fuck up a customers car. you can try to buff and polish it, maybe even clay bar it.

Factory paint is way too thin to safely wet sand orange peel out. You will be left with a clear coat that will be too thin which can cause it to fail prematurely. As far as the bumpers, they should have been wet sanded and polished out by the shop who did the paint work.

And does anybody know members on here that HAVE gotten their orange peel removed? I searched a few threads and it seems like a decent amount of people are saying the OEM paint/clear cannot be wet sanded.

It can be wet sanded. But why do it? Newer BMWS's especially 3 series have a heavy orange peel clear coat. If you do wet sand it, how can you make it all look uniform? cars are supposed to have a somewhat mottled look in their clear coat. If you were to make it flat It wouldnt look right.
Sounds to me as if the body shop did a poor paint job on the bumpers. Do not mess with the rest of the car. Good luck |
