Electric Steering

Is the 335i the only model to still get hydraulic steering?

Having tried the Efficient Dynamics electric version I have to say that it seems like a really backward step for BMW.

Yes, that's correct. Shame isn't it?

Doesn't seem like a good decision for a drivers car. The electric steering seems very 'over assisted' to me. It's also a little numb.

Yes I know what you mean, quite scary when your not used to it.

We've recently changed the wife's car from a Mini to the Fiat 500, it's a great little car, but the steering is very odd.

The servotronic component which used to be standard on all models with EPS is quite good - there's nothing light or wishy washy about the steering feel.

The electric power steering is significantly lighter than the hydraulic setup in the x35i and pre-ED cars at low speeds. Jumping out of one of the ED diesel 1s in the family and into mine really emphasises the difference.

The ED electric power steering with servotronic optioned does weight up considerably at speed though.

Drove my friends E90 320d a couple of weeks ago and i much prefered the steering in the 335i. For me personally the heavier the better in regards to steering.

Funny, but mine feels reasonably heavy at low speeds - and way heavier than my wife's Clio when I jump into it after the BMW.
