Another Puncture!

Picked up a screw in the nearside front this morning. The tyre pressure monitor picked it up and checking with a gauge, revealed that it had dropped to about 25psi, so it hadn't run flat. This is the second puncture we've had in just over a years ownership of the 335d. Rang around a few places and surprisingly our local Kwik Fit had one (Michelin PS2 ZP) in stock so got it fitted. I've retained the old tyre as it still had between 5 and 6mm of tread left and the tyre insurance company will probably want to see it.

The thing that's really annoying though is that the tyre insurance company are not open at weekends and all the Inchcape dealers service departments knock off at lunchtime on Saturday so you have no option but to source your tyre yourself.

Anyway at least the car is not off the road as could have been the case. No doubt the insurance company will try and wriggle out of paying for the replacement but I'm looking forward to a "disscussion".

The punctured tyre will repair though, the screw penetrated about 70 mm in from the shoulder and only just made it through the casing, so worse case I will have a good spare.

Regards

Chris

Hope you manage to salvage the tyre and stop the insurance co wriggling out of it! Why are the services you pay for so difficult to use?

Well the insurance went through without a problem. They didn't want to see the punctured tyre, just a report of the tread depths across it. So just need to get it repaired and find a spare front wheel to mount it on.

Anyone got a spare 8x18" M Sport 193 style knocking about?

Regards

Chris

We took the tyre insurance option from our local dealer ( Inchcape Group) and it paid for itself in the first month when we punctured a rear with only 1700 miles on the clock. In hindsight (a wonderful thing) it was certainley worth it as we're effectively in credit now.

For the 335d we paid around £230, when I got the 120d they wanted £450, but as I can get tyres for £90, I declined.

Right, I've picked up a spare 8" 193 M Sport rim. It's pretty good condition, nice and round, but it does need touching up in a few places, mostly from where the tyre gorilla was at work!

What's the best colour match for these M Sport rims? I've used TiAg on other BMW wheels but it is a bit too light a shade for these.

Any suggestions?

Regards

Chris

Wurth silver spray paint apparently is what BMW are supposed to use.

Thanks for that.

Is there any particular shade or reference number?

I've touched in a wheel on the 120d with a TiAg spray from Halfords and it was fine but it is definitely lighter than the 193 wheels.

Regards

Chris

I had a thread on this a while ago and back then actually withdrew this insurance.

Just looked at the small print and this insurance is only valid for new cars!
This should be stated on the front web page, they must use it to void claims?
