Whats the highest mileage n54 that has been disassembled?

Anybody gone any further than a valve cover removal on a 50K+ mile n54
How does the sludge look? Any pics?

I find it surprising this guy is pushing engine flushes.

Install a methanol injection system to the car, and you can eliminate some of that buildup and also gain in performance also!!

I know it will probably help combustion chamber deposits. I doubt it would help with crankcase deposits.

I doubt there is any sludge in the N54 engine. Sludge is built by bad crank case ventilation and too much short distance driving in combination with too weak piston rings. The best way to prevent carbon build up is to use a OCC and also with an open breather if allowed. Frequent oil changes, more often than BMW advices, is also the key to keep the engine clean.

HAHAHA you are wrong my friend! Take off your intake manifold and look at the intake valves.....Even at 10K miles they will look like an old buick with 300k miles

he is talking about crankcase slug you troll , not valve slug. To prevent Valves slug an OCC and meth do the trick.

I dont know if this helps, but its the same basic motor (I know a lot is different and hopefully improved in over a decade) but here is my s52 at 86k miles taken apart a few weeks ago.....looks fantastic.

Hope the n54's hold up this well! Might want to pick one up again down the road

Just after removing the valve cover, running Mobil 1 5-40. Engine has been turbo'd for the last 25k miles.

After getting the head decked and cleaned

hmm - not bad - I know your average synthetic based oil has better cleaning properties. They will actually desludge a motor (that has used dino based oil previously) over 2-4K miles after introduction. Unfortunately, those deposits have to go somewhere.. and that is often into the pickup screen or oil filter.

If you want to get technical, Slug would be defined as oil that is broken down and is found in deposits. Regardless if its found on the intake valves or on in the top of the valve cover is still slug. Check yourself before to rickity-wreck yourself

Wow Sniz, that motor looks like it has been kept in pretty excellent condition. How do you like it compared to your E92?

love the e36 M3, raw and precise....not a heavy boat like the e92. I do miss the e92's docile nature for daily driving though, you cant have both.
