Tyre Help

Hi Guys

Got to the time now that i need to change my tyres. Was checking on Camskill for new bridgestone runflats (still not sure about changing to non run flat) and see they have two differnt types. Can anyone shed any light on the difference. One is an DZ the other an LZ. Apparently the LZ supercedes the DZ.

Is there any difference?? Are the LZ the mythical 3rd Gen??

Interesting thing is this part:

When tyres are run at reduced or zero pressure, the friction on the distorted sidewall rapidly generates heat which can quickly destroy a tyre. Bridgestone Tyres have implemented three new technologies that reduce the heat generated by a tyre under run-flat conditions." .... sounds to me like they are saying that the non 3G ones are rubbish as they will destroy a tyre at zero presure... kind of defeats the object

No 3G's about yet... from what I read, not sure the OEMs have been approved yet. So not likely to see the aftermarket ones available for a while.

'DZ' have a lower rolling resistance.

OP - Go for Michelin PS2 if you want to stick with RFTs, Bridgestones are a bad choice for replacement.

They are talking about 2G IMO. But thats exactly why you can't (officialy) repair 2G runflats after a zero pressure useage.

The sidewalls can be critically damaged.....

Even more so with future 3G runflats as they apparently use an initially soft sidewall (for better ride) which then instantly stiffens up chemically with the heat from low pressure running - again ruining the tyre in the process.

Remember RFTs (2G or 3G) are there for supposed safety under blowout only and to let you drive to a repairers without getting your nails dirty, you are sacrificing your tyre when punctured for that 'benefit'.

Thanks for the replys guys

Just bit the bulit and ordered a set of Conti 3`s. Getting them fitted next week. Bit of a wait because i ordered the ones with rim protection. lets hope the ride get smoothed out a bit.

Off to halfords for tyre goo now. Where does everyone get the BMW motability kit from. Ebay etc or at the dealers.
