I believe the fuel filter for these cars are inside the fuel pump, and is located in the vehicles tank?? I'm going to replace mine soon. Has anyone done this, and what is the procedure for doing this since its inside the vehicles gas tank?

Good question. I've never heard of the fuel filter being replaced in the 335i.

they're in the fuel tank and it takes several hours. BMW claim it as another "lifetime" item

I found it for $10, without the pressure regulator. The pressure regulator is fine, so I don't need the repair kit.

Here you go:

1) Remove rear bench seat to gain access to tank.
2) Remove right sensor unit. (Similar to following steps 3,4,5,9)
3) Remove access cover from left side
4) Detach plug connection and fuel feed line
5) Release (left side) screw cap
7) Attach a tether line to the right side hose pack
8) When lifting the left side sensor/fuel filter/pressure regulator assembly, the hoses (and tether) will feed from the right side, through the tank, and up thru left side. Tether line is there, so one can feed the hose pack back thru left side access hole, thru the tank, to the right side access hole to re-connect to right sensor after fuel filter/pressure regulator have been replaced and re-installed.
9) Replace (left side) screw cap seal and tightened screw cap to until notch on cap is aligned with "V" marking on ring.
10) Re-install everything else

That's good to know! Looked like from realOEM that they were on integrated kit and couldn't be sold separately.

It really isn't a filter. It is a pick up sock just to get the big stuff. I have never needed to replace one of these. The real fuel filter now is on the actual fuel pump at the gas stations. Modern fuels are very clean.
