Worth upgrading to latest software for Procede?

Hi all,

My car's in the shop for the camshaft ledge replacement, and my software dates to whatever was recent for Jan'09 (10/07 build). Should I ask the dealer to update? Or should I keep as is? I have catless and v3 canbus - so I was reading of some probs with O2 sims, shadow fault codes, etc., on latest engine softwares.

Any thoughts?

I don't think the PROcede V4 CANbus will benefit, it targets absolute values, but the rest of the car will for sure.

I'm mostly worried about O2 sims working/not working properly, as I have _finally_ found the proper bloody setting for it (I didn't read the thing that I had to start at 50%, so I started at 100% going down 5% at a time, ha... at 15% now).

V4 is still beta so I guess the O2 sims will work at some point. However, BMS provides dedicated V3 O2 sims which work ( $80 ) with the new progman's.

I seem to recall shiv saying at one point that "the o2 sims code is mature, so we aren't touching it". I mean hey.... I got this $900 device that's supposed to do it, why get another one, right

Procede o2 simm works without any issues. You just need to dial in you percentage. Most ppl I talked to ended up with around 20%. Just know one person (jpsimon I think) who's running it at 50%.

I run it at 20%, no issues whatsoever.

Uninformed advice as always. There is nothing nonfunctional about our built-in o2 sim function. It hasn't been changed in months and is compatible with all dme software versions. As explained, it just needs to be dialed in to a specific car. Just like any other adjustable o2 sim.

However, there will be a CAN based cat code eliminating feature coming soon. Won't need to mess with any setting. Just turn it on.

Shiv: this is what I said later in my post (re o2 sim code not changing). So... do I request an update or not, what do you figure? This isn't just related to O2 sims. I mean functionality in general.

You can PM me if you don't want to discuss this on the thread, btw, no worries there, just thought others might have this question.

Go for the update. At worse, you may have to dial in your o2 sim value a little. But that will be a thing of the past within the next 2-3 weeks.

It's coming. The new v4 software will actually be designed on a netbook computer

So finally they did end up upgrading _something_ (my SA wasn't sure _what_, but he said _something_ got "reprogrammed", hah). How do you find out what version they upgraded you to? BT Tool won't tell me AFAIK, and I didn't screenshot the original versions displayed anyway.

Not to be picky, but is there actually an advantage to having the latest BMW software for the Procede? I think that's what the OP was asking, not whether it does any harm to upgrade the software.

Oh, in that case, no real advantage that I've ever been able to discern if you are running v4. For those running nonCAN tunes (v3 for instance), the newer DME updates will make the car drive a little smoother at partial throttle.

So the dealer finally did not upgrade me - he told me that there's lag introduced in newer versions, and mine is quite well as it is

Seems I'm running v28.0 on my car. Should I fight to get v36 or whatever's the newest, or not worth it? I suppose the plus is that v28 never threw shadow faults with the Procede with me no matter what maps I used - so maybe better stay where I am.
