I'm considering this Fri's 2/12 event w/ Speedventures also. I was planning on heading down to LA for the long weekend, so maybe take an extra day and attend that event. I've never been to Willow Springs.

I was reading up on the registration at Speed Ventures when I came upon something confusing. I've never been to Willow Springs.

Can someone confirm there are 2 courses at Willow Springs?

1) Main track
2) "Streets of Willow"

It looks like this Friday's event is Streets of Willow, whereas the following weekend is the main track?

Since I'll be driving down from the Bay Area, I can arrange to attend one of these events. Which one should I go to? For those who have driven both, can you please shed some of your experience?

I'm sure both are enjoyable, but I kinda feel like I should register for the main track event, as it's difficult for me to make the trip down.

There are 3 road courses. The Big Track, Streets of Willow, and Horse Thief Mile. The weekend event is for the Big Track what you refer to as the main track.

The main track is often referred to as Big Willow or WSIR. The streets is referred to as just "the streets" or SOW (streets of willow). Big Willow is more famous and has been around since the 50's.

Hope to see you out there.

Purple. Stepping out of the kiddie pool (and moving to the shallow end of the big pool!)

Big track (WSIR) is much more open and speeds are much greater than at streets, especially for cars with lots of hp that can eat up the front and back straights. It's a little intimidating, but just work your way up slowly and get an instructor if it's your first time out.

Just for reference, my civic (160hp) hits ~120mph entering turn 8. I don't run that track without a roll bar, but then again, the old honda is pretty much a tin can with wheels.

If you are noobie with LOTS of HP, I would be extra careful on Big Willow or any track for that matter. I would run that track any day on my '90 CRX with B16A but not in the M. Streets is my preference over the WSIR, just because I am a whim. However, at the end of front straight at SOW, you can hit close to 120mph, I think.

Anyhow, have fun and be safe.
