Maybe it is linked to the xenon headlights on the E90 LCI?
On my E93 with xenon it seems there is place to fit a 3" pipe

honestly guys I dont remember. There is a thread on here that contained it on a members blog of some sort. It wasnt a K&N that I used. Substantially larger than the supplied filter and had intake area on the top of the cone as well.

I'm running UR as well...really nice, but got mine in black powdercoated...

Here's a youtube clip dynoing with it installed...can't really see it that great though...this was my first ever dyno done in June 2008 with procede v2, forge dvs and UR CAI, numbers not as impressive back then
