I spoke to 1-800 people and they basically told me this model - 328i and 335i doesn't have an alarm system preinstalled. It is, however, prewired for an alarm system. Now, can someone confirm this. If it is true, which i think is, does anyone know how much the alarm system from BMW cost? and can it be integrated into our keys? I know BMW will sell the stellar system but they cant be integrated into they keys.

Get the accessory add on alarm system. The average price seems to be $425-$750 for the alarm installed at your dealership. Check with yours.
The OEM alarm is well integrated. You get interior sensor, panic button enabled on remote, audible lock/unlock confirmation etc.

Just say no, that's rape! Shop around various dealers, or if you're adventurous, do a search for a DIY and shop online for self-install. You'd still need to go to the dealer for activation though.

the alarm doesn't come preinstalled but is a dealer option. our cars should all be prewired for the OEM alarm. buy it for $250, install it yourself and try and find a dealer to update the software for around $50. most dealers probably charge closer to $100 for this. the alarm should work after you install it just minus a few options like the beep. i plan on ordering it next week

You can buy the kit for ~$250 and install it yourself. The most complicated part on my 330i was removing the rear whell on the driver's side to install the siren. However, you must then take it to the dealer to have it programmed. In Seattle, that will cost you over a hundred bucks. On my car, the alarm didn't work at all until it was programmed, YMMV.
Still, I figure that I saved about $600 by doing it myself. Cheers. |

If I put in the alarm by myself and take it to the dealer and tell them it's not working, do you think they'll "fix" it for free and just assume it's a warranty thing?
