I know its been talked about to death on here about RFTs to non-RFTs, insurance companies etc. But I have searched around and not found much detail but ..... does anyone know if the Kumho KU31s are any good for an e92?

They do exactly the same size as my RFTs so would be an exact swap, unlike Falkens which I would have to increase the rear which could lead to the dreaded 'mod' with the insurance company.

I have read rave reviews on other forums for the old shape M3 (e46 I think) but not many people have mentioned them on their shinny new e92s. They seem pretty much on par with the Falkens price wise on Camskill too.

Any thoughts, comments appreciated!

Presumebly you're talking about FK452s - are ZE912s not available in your size?

I know the 452s are the most widely used, but the 912s are a newer tyre and from what I've heard trade very little in performance for improved wear and noise. I put a set on my 535d and they are better than the OEM Bridgestone RE050s.

Ive put KU31s on my E90 LCI 320d.

Simply put, they are fantastic, good grip, very quiet and progressive.

My traction control used to flash like a christmas tree on RFTs - with the KU31s I only see the light when pushing on hard on wet roundabouts.

I know Kumho generally get a good review, but I had some on an MG a couple of years ago and one tyre literally split in half - because of this I will never consider them again.

I would go for Falken, Toyo or maybe Avon...

Hi milesr3, yeah I was talking about 452s as there have been some very positive write ups on here.

But as I have the 225/35/19 and 255/30/19 they do not offer the rear in the same size I woudl have to go for a 265/30/19, which would then possibly move me to a 235/35/19 fronts as recommended on here. As there are a lot of threads on here about diching RFTs and insurance I would prefer to stick to the original sizes when I go non-RFT (which I got the OK from insurance for when I took out the policy) and Kumho seem to be the only non big brand that match the originals.

Butch - may I ask, did you have a punture before the tyre spilt in half or was it a blowout etc? I changed some Michelins to Kumhos on a Megane before and thought they was pretty good.

No puncture or blowout, didn't even know about it until I saw it ! Just parked car up and as I walked passed the front end, I noticed the tyre looked a bit odd - after closer inspection the whole tyre had split in half, across the whole width of the tyre.

Bit hard to explain but if you imagine the tyre tread is made up of two semi circles that is stuck on to the frame of the tyre, it was like they had glued the two halves together but they had come apart.

It may have been a freak tyre, but for that reason I won't have Kumho ever again !
If I were you I would go for the wider tyre 265/235 - they are cheaper too
