Goofball spilled soda all over my center console...
So a goofball passenger knocked a can of soda out of the cupholder and it went all over my center console. I cleaned it up, but today I noticed about 4 or 5 of the buttons are now extremely sticky. There were a couple of them that would hardly even push in. Is there any way to clean up these buttons? They are the 5 6 preset buttons, AM/FM button, Mode button, and the passenger side heated seat button. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could try some isopropyl alcohol and/or APC with a brush. Use it sparingly though, don't soak it in there. Hopefully this will take care of it but no guarantees - it's tough to clean this sort of thing.
The sooner you get to it, the better. ![]()

Sorry man that sucks! In the future, don't allow people to bring food or drinks into your car! Maybe just water but nothing else!

So I tried the brush w/ rubbing alcohol and it worked great, but only temporarily. After applying it last night, the buttons were pushing in 100% normal. Checked it out this morning after it had time to dry and they are sticky again. It does seem slightly better...i'm not sure how much of that is psychological though.
I just applied some more rubbing alcohol and am hoping that if I keep it up, it will flush the left over soda out. Anyone have any other ideas I can try? Would try the steam cleaner but I don't have access to one. |

had the same problem. it will just get sticky again
i took out climate control and removed the face and buttons completely to clean them. it's not hard to do, just gotta make sure you put all the buttons back in the correct spot and don't break any clips |

I tested them this morning and they are about 95% there so I might just continue on with the rubbing alcohol treatment until it is 100% |

STEAM!!!! it will emulsify the sugars and rid you of the problem, just dont stay in once spot. Move it around rather quickly and check the progress along the way!

might be better off using windex, which is pretty harsh too with ammonia.
isopropyl alcohol is rather strong; and i don't know know if these bmw 3 series consoles have any sort of coating on the plastic; it could strip it off or damage it. benefit of alcohol is that it evaporates. on the balance, probably doesn't matter. or...for kicks, use ether, its flammable but gets the lipid based stuff right out. |

same thing happened to me, heat up some water in the microwave and get some cotton swabs and rub the wet and warm swabs all around the buttons that ares sticky until they feel alright. you might have to do it a few times till you dissolve all the gunk but it works like a charm
