Hi - the waiting is torture....
Hi,
I've done the formal 'newbie' posting in the correct thread but thought I would say hello and look for sympathy in this forum! I'm currently completing the purchase of a 320d M Sport Le Mans blue coupe (E92 I believe). This will be my fourth BMW (excluding one company 3 series) and I'm rather looking forward to getting my hands on it. So far I've only seen pictures and probably not asked enough questions but after being let down by a local dealer I went further afield and purchased a car from BMW dealership some miles away as I was keen to just get it all sorted. My previous ownership experiences have been mixed but always backed up by a good dealer (this seems to have changed since I last purchased a car). I've been recovered twice, had numerous warranty claims, like a new fuel tank, new suspension, new CAT, new seals etc (The Z3s were the worse) but always still enjoyed my cars. My current 323i E46 has been VERY good with only a few minor repairs needed last year (power steering and some suspension boots / arms or something!) so I'm hoping that the new car will be much the same (I'm ignoring the problems I read about cracked alloys, RFTs and dodgy iDrive software). As usual these things always take longer than expected, my previous car only took a couple of days to prep and transfer the cherished plate, this one is looking like a couple of weeks!! (I know that is a short wait when compared to ordering a new car - but still!!!). I liked the old days of over the counter service from the DVLA - now all I'm told it is 7 to 10 days even when the paperwork is dropped off by the dealer at the local DVLA office. I was hoping (and kind of need) to pick the car this Saturday as I'm in and out of the country until April but with only two full days left this week I'm not holding out much hope that the paperwork will come back. Why is it that these 'purchases' take over yor life and you can't think of anything else! - or is that just me? Apologies for the lengthy post - I personally like reading the threads here so thought I should contribute. Adam |

Welcome and congrats on your new purchase. What is the full spec of your E92? I have had a 320d E91 and a 335d E92, but not a 320d E92! I am sure you will find it to be an excellent choice of car and it will provide you with many years of happy motoring.

I should say that the car is 'used' and the spec includes the following options (not sure whether they were standard but have been sent a list by the dealer):
Leather interior (Black) Electric folding mirrors Sliding armrest - WOAH!!! Lumbar support Extended storage High beam assistance Front and rear parking sensors Rain sensors Adaptive headlights (I assume that is a standard feature but not sure) USB interrface Sat Nav Pro and Logic 7 speakers! it was between this spec. and another one with no Logic 7 but with bluetooth - I thought I could leave without the latter. |

Welcome Adam
Nice spec car, adaptive headlights aren't standard fit, Xenons are though. |

I was only really wanting the sat nav, leather, and USB - everything else was a bonus.
As it's a real pain if the car can't be collected this weekend I phoned the dealer and spoke to their admin department (salesman on holiday) they couldn't do anything extra to help other than regular checks at the local DVLA office to see if they done the paperwork!!! I'm was hoping that they could shout through the window and move my application higher up the pile!!! I did see a car with Voice control which I fancied in black but it had sold by the time I went to the dealer to put down a deposit. The car also has a maintenance pack for the next two years - not sure if it is the 'plus' level but the dealer did say it included the wiper blades!!! |

can't you have it with it's stock plate and then transfer the cherished plate in a few weeks?

The dealer kindly called me this morning to say my car looked fantastic, had the new plates on and was all ready for collection - except for the valid TAX disc that is!!!
I'm don't think it would be easy to drive away with the orginal plates on since I expect the v5 form has gone as part of the transfer and I don't think there would be a tax disc for the old reg. The most annoying thing is that the dealer sat on my paperwork for a couple of days so the application should've gone in last Thursday but only went in on Monday so there was little hope anyway - especially at this time of year. I've been trying to move things around this morning so it looks like I might be able to collect next Friday (which is only a week tomorrow!!!). I think I'm resigned to this fact now so can get on with my life........... |

E92 and E93s do (Coupe and Convertible), E90 and E91 don't (Saloon and Touring).

Thanks for all the welcome messages.
Got the info I was waiting for today - seems my paperwork is now all in order and subject to the baby being good and a little help from the wife I should be picking the car up on Wednesday. Looks like the journey will take me about 2.5 hours so should be a good journey home trying out the stereo and sat nav!!! I'm rather sad so I'm taking my camera with me to get a few sly pictures at the dealers. I hope the kept it clean since it went through the valet process last Wednesday!!! Might have to get the salesman out with an oily rag before my arrival. |
