Fresh scratch! Please help
Folks,
I just washed the car and I discovered that I have a somewhat large gash on the passenger side door from someone bumping their door into mine. The clear coat is gone and it looks like the paint layer was also scraped. However, they did not get down to the bare metal. I have the BWM OEM paint stick and OEM clear coat. What would you advise me to do? Without flash: With flash: |

I'm no expert....I've always used cleaner/wax to undo scratches. But I must say it's never been where the clear was removed, only scratches into the clear. I don't think the touch-up is recommended for an area that large. I've used it for a chip in the door.
Good luck... |

I was thinking of wet sanding with min of 2000 grit sand paper and then applying some of the clear coat. Repeat this process 2-3 times and then finally wax.
Anybody else care to chime in? |

That looks like a paint transfer which can be polished out. After polishing, you will be able to tell the extent of the damage. A PDR specialist maybe able to take the dent out

It looks more like the clear coat has been damaged to me rather than paint transfer from the pictures.
Quote:
I watched him do it for the most part. Apply the touch up paint as best you can in thin layers - allowing each layer to dry - until you're reasonably 'flush' with the rest of the paint. Most likely the area will be raised a little more than the rest of the paint. Wet sand the area (don't know the grit he used) until its completely flush, then compound/polish the sanding scratches out. |

Yeah, this is definitely not paint transfer. The clear coat is damaged. If anything got "transferred" at all, it was my clear coat on the douche-bag's door...
I think I will take it to a body shop and have them fix it. Vasil |

You have 3 options...
Leave it Wet sand and polish. (possibly adding clear). Or Body shop. You can try the 2nd idea and take it the body shop if you screw up LOL If your ready to pay for the body shop, I would atleast try a DIY for sh*t and giggles. |
