Question 2011 e92 LCI iDrive changes?

Hi Guys

Long time lurker but first time post for me. I have just put down a deposit on an e92 335i M-Sport LCI due for the March production run. (I currently own an E90).

I have been told by my dealer that the TV tuner option has been deleted as a standard on the e92 LCI and now available as an option only. While this is not a big deal in itself, it made me wonder what other changes have been made to iDrive / Satnav etc in the LCI. I have been scouring the web for more on this, but not finding much technical info at all. Does anybody know if there are any other significant changes and also why the TV option was deleted?

Cheers
Jay

TV, Voice and 8.8" Monitor have traditionally been bundled with the Professional Navigation on Oz spec'd cars. Of course, Pro Nav was standard on 335's and above.

I'd guess the reason for de-bundling the TV is that they're trying to gouge a few extra $$$ here and there. Given that BMW did not pass on the savings from the import tariff cuts, I would have expected them to add more options to the stardard kit, not remove them (unless they added heaps more value elsewhere?).

I dont think anyone uses their TV function. It gets turned off when car moves anyway so probably a good idea to save on that item i guess. But the stealership should pass on the savings thou. Bastards!!!

Looks like the LCI m-tech rear diffuser and LED tail lights will be a direct swap for the non-LCI E92's

Okay, I'll bite - how did you get yours to work all the time? Do you find it too distracting while driving?

I don't use mine all that often only when I'm waiting for the missus but if I could I'd rather have the comfort access as standard and then opt for tv if I wanted it, which I probably wouldn't.

Hi Jay,

I just posted something similar to the general E90 forum. When I asked my dealer to order the professional navigation because I like the new look and feel of the design, he said that the business navigation has just been redesigned to look like the professional system (Audi-like interface) rather than the very dated and not particularly user-friendly previous version. Has anyone seen or heard this? I've googled all day but found little to verify it. The dealer is very knowledgeable and took me to see it with my own eyes, but I would love to verify it somehow in the event he was mixed up and showed me the professional...

Ive recoded my CCC Module to allow Video in Motion, Its great on the highway, Car isn't really designed for it so Digital is out of the question but analogue works alright.

I don't like those after market units as
1) They are expensive for what they do.
2) They Mess with the cars inertial navigation.
3) I can do it myself lol.

Part of BMW's engineering software set. Known as NCSExpert, Allows complete manipulation of the coding files. So you can change a lot more than the dealers are capable of changing, Including removing Idrive warning message on start-up, video while driving etc. Next on my list is to remove the Seat-belt Gong & the rest of the annoying Gongs. If you were closer to my side of the country I could give you hand, Ive also enabled the US Driving lights (amber corners) just to be different :P

The way to verify whether Business or Professional is by the size of the screen (6.5" on Biz, 8.8" on Pro).

Looking at your other thread.....
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=353517
it seems Europe has the updated Biz Nav, so Oz will likely follow. Also it makes sense to standardise on the one operating system.

You should also request a brochure for the E93 LCI. Below is an extract of the current E90 brochure (from the International website, E92/3 LCI brochures are not online yet).

I was given a Z4 as a loan car last week when my car was in for service and it had the new professional nav system with the split screen. It was excellent .... so too was the Z4 !!!

Thanks Bcoz, I was chuffed to read in the other thread that it was confirmed the biz nav has been updated. Don't need to spring for the professional now (although the Logic7/HK, sports seats, innovations package, metallic paint and 18" wheels weren't exactly cheap options!). Interesting to note that apparently the biz system now has an SD card which hopefully means you won't need a DVD disc for the nav any more, and can use the player for CDs or other DVDs.

Re the LCI E93 brochure, the sales rep says he will let me know as soon as it's in, but he thinks it will take a while. Have been checking the UK, US, Global and German websites but no sign of a downloadable brochure yet.

Very excited about the new car!

If you go by the E90 extract above, it mentions integrated navigation data storage which seems to confirm an SD card (or flash or small drive-based?) navigation system.

One thing I noticed tho is that the Biz Nav now only mentions a CD Drive, whereas the previous version had a combined CD/DVD drive. As part of the changes, they may have removed the DVD player. You may want to check this with your sales rep.

Great point, I bet you're right. Give with one hand, and take with the other!

Oh well, much prefer the updated interface than using it for DVDs anyway. Thanks for pointing that out.

The DVD drive in the Bus Nav was only there for the Nav and did not allow playing of movie DVD's anyway so you ain't going to miss anything.

Hi Mark, could you help me remove the warning message and enable video in motion? I can drive to Sunshine Coast one day
