HELP! - triggered error codes
guys....I was doing some wiring to retrofit dct paddles and I triggered 2 error codes and they're not going away
code 354 (start off assistance inactive) code 351 (4x4...awd, dcs malfunstion) i have a 325xi I had these same error codes 1-2 years ago and it was fix by dealer under warranty and I'm pretty sure my awd and dcs is working fine...I probably trigger the sensor while I made a mistake on wiring. My warranty ended in Dec09 and wonder if anyone here can help me deactivate the error codes???? also have a question for ppl that have paddle shifters... can you up/down shift while you're in regular D mode or you can only paddle shift in DS or M mode????? Thanks

Assuming you disconnected the battery, code 351 is a common error. Simply start up the car, rotate the wheel all the way to the right, then all the way to the left to reset the steering position sensor. The error should immediately go away. I'm not sure what 354 applies to.
When I push the paddles in D mode it engages M mode. (DS is sport auto, M is manual control). You cannot shift up and down in D mode. only M mode (hence manual ) Looking forward to the DIY ska! Btw, dremel + sanding wheel = burnt rubber = badddddd |

i got a DCT m3 wheel....lol not gonna cut thru the thick rubber
my dct paddles can shift while I'm in DS mode (if i hit down shift paddle in DS, I'll go down a gear and then it'll stay in M mode)...but if I'm in D, paddles dont work unless I manually goto DS via the autoshift knob. now ppl in UK that have done the retrofit can also down shift while in reg. D mode...interesting I'll try to see if it can reset the error code...thanks for your help!

Did you turn to lock on both sides? Do it a couple times and maybe drive for a short while. Your awd is fine, everytime you disconnect the battery that error will show up. If you've done all that, then I'm not sure what the issue is. Any idea what the dealer fixed when you last had the problem?
I'm not familiar with the retrofit wiring but I would also recheck your connections if you haven't already. |

cyphr...thanks for all your advice
I got everything fixed, my Coil Spring Cartridge was the problem...I picked up another one from blueaudi. It wasn't caused by the retrofit, my guess is that when I had the steering column lock issue fix by the dealer back in 2007..they fucked up this part. I just happen to run into this while retrofitting the paddles. I'm looking at the old cartridge and things are all out of place and some parts of the cartridge doesn't even function correctly; who else could it be ....lol WOW....I just cant trust the dealers anymore!!!
