43k miles on a CPO car- want to schedule service- some questions
**Edit** My car has 41k miles**
I know my car still has the original 4yr/50k warranty. After checking the condition based service status on my BT scan tool, I noticed a few things: -Front brake pad is very low -Spark plug is very low -Oil is high but I guess it wasn't reset because it shows up on my dash that it needs to come in at 10/2010 or 3400miles My question is when I schedule maintenance service at my stealership, how do I go about making sure these things are replaced? I mean, should I go and say I know these things need replacement because I scanned it? Also, what about transmission and differential fluid? Won't they have to replace that due to maintenance? How about the driver door aluminum trim that has a lot of nicks on it from the normal use of seatbelt? Just trying to get some inputs so I know what to expect before making a trip to the dealership. This is my first time getting it serviced since I got it. Please let me know. Thanks in advance. Last edited by itsjappo; 03-11-2010 at 01:57 AM.. |

aluminium tirm -> go ask your SA. i got few things replaced under warranty, no questions asked (steering trim, shift knob, center dash trim piece)
tranny and diff fluid -> they will say lifetime which REALLY means 100k in their term. so no they won't do it. you have to pay outta your pocket to do these. if you have nav and it says you need to have those replaced, they will do it for you, otherwise, you have to wait unless you have legitimate complaint to make...

oil, spark plugs and front brake pads will be done if your car tells to do so. when they plug in your key to their computer at the dealer, it will tell how many miles for those services. according to my service log, i still had 30k on brakes but my brake sensor got squeaky and they replaced not only sensor but also pads and rotors. as far as spark plug goes, they will not change it until 1) service log tells SA to replace it or 2) you get misfire code which will lead dealer to believe that it's spark plug/injector problem. i had tune so i am replacing spark plugs out of my pocket in every 20k miles...

As mentioned, when under the BMW maintenance plan 4yr/50K, the computer states when items need replacing. The dealer gets the parts and labor reimbursed from BMW. BMW doesn't pay dealer if maintenance items aren't due per the car's computer. Thus dealer won't usually do the work - although I have been good willed some minor services (dealer ate the costs) in the name of "customer service". It all depends on your relationship with the dealer.
If you're still under the OEM new vehicle warranty - you should be able to get the trim pieces changed out. Check now. Your extended CPO warranty will not cover trim. Almost every fluid on these cars - exception: brake fluid - is lifetime or extended fill. Even engine oil is monitored by the computer. You will read about a lot of folks saying that BMW has oil changes due at 15K miles. That is incorrect today. That 15K mile interval is based on the previous generations' Schedule I and Scheduled II services. The current cars are CBS - condition base service. For example, my oil changes as scheduled by the computer are at ~21K mile intervals. It is due to the amount of highway miles the car knows I do. Someone who a takes lots of short trips and drives in the city will have shorter mileage oil changes.

ok thanks for the input guys. i guess i will schedule service soon with stealership and ask about the trim replacement. the cbs indicator on dash says 10/2010 and 3400 miles from now. Can I get it done now or do I have to wait till then?
