Sand paint to Carbon and Clear
I have a Vorsteiner Carbon Fiber trunk fully painted and I'm looking to have a bodyshop sand the 'tip' down to expose the carbon fiber like the picture below (I hope Scott1026 doesn't mind me using his picture - Thanks!) and clear it.
How much should this cost roughly? Obviously body shops come in all shapes and sizes but what's a good ball park figure? |

A few hundred bucks I'm guessing, I'm not sure if that's even possible, however, because they do that paint fade when they first paint the exposed CF.

Looks to be a fair amount of work (sand, sand, and more sand) but definitely possible:

A lot of people fade that edge vs just leaving the whole thing exposed. They may need to do a full repaint. Probably depends on the shop and quality.

Good luck! Once carbon fiber is painted it's about it. It really depends on if the manufacturer used clear gel coat and how much gel coat they used.
It's a huge gamble sanding it down. Once you hit the cf weave it is destroyed as far as looks go. It will never be able to be clear coated. Unless they used clear gel coat and applied it heavy. Do you know why it was painted? possibly to hide some flaws in the weave. |

Bring it up to my shop and I'll hook you up. We've done tons of the Vorsteiner boot lids.
