Dealership That Doesn't Update Software
I'm sitting in the dealership lounge right now, waiting for a few bulbs to be replaced on my 2008 335xi. I asked to have the software version checked, as well, but my SA told me that it would be at least one hour's worth of labor ($125) and would not be covered under warranty. I asked if any software updates had been performed on my car in the past, and he looked through the history and said no. Evidently, this dealership doesn't update the software when a new version is released from BMW. They will only update if you're throwing codes relating to to the software version. I asked if they would update at my request, and he had to check with the shop foreman who informed him that it would be possible, but it would cost me $250. lol.
Is this all normal? |

Nope, you are getting ripped to find out the current version.
You can check the software version yourself. Have them read your keyfob and get a 2 page print out. Look for the integration level line item and match it up to the following pdf. http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/attachment...ata_Status.pdf To get an update yes you need to have a reason or complaint. That being said once you know your current version you maybe able to search e90post for a complaint or issue that someone has had and been addressed with an update. When i asked my dealer for a update , he told me they only update when there is a problem. If i really wanted a update without there beeing a problem , they would do it , but he said there would be a risk that some of the electronics or computers in the car could get destroyed during the update. They would not be responsible for those problems , cause i insisted on a update. He said they were updating a 7 series for a customer who asked for it , and they already had for 4000 euro of damage.
A few weeks later i had a minor issue , they solved it and updated the software , with no computers or electronics crashing |

The most recent version of the BMW software is ISTA/P 37.0 which I should obtain next Monday. Depending on your options (satnav etc.), the update procedure can take between 2.5-4 hours. My dealer charges around 200 EUR for that (as in my case there's no complaint but I rather want to erase my current tuning flash). Alpina_B3_Lux

My dealer wants to update because I'm having the new HPFP installed. They say the software as well as the pump are causing a lot of issues. My problem is, I have catted DP's and I hear the new software throws a CEL. I wonder if I can just request to not have the update and just the HPFP.

It takes time and they are always swamped. As to the guy with catted dp's, if you heard it throws codes tell them you dont want it. They upgeraded my spftware and have not been able to get rid of the 2c31 codes since (December upgrade). I will be back to get the new one as per terrys advice.

if you really want to get your software updated, just go to SA and say your nav froze up when dialing and you get WG rattle in the morning. they will do it for you because they have to update the software to fix those problems...
