Exactly, it would clog the filter and not flow as well. I don't see why you wouldn't clean it regularly.

A word of advise:

All those "life time" filters that you can clean and recharge are NEVER lifetime units. After the 2nd or 3rd cleaning, they are spent and can never be restored to the original specs.
