Additional Oil Cooler?

Has anyone installed an aftermarket oil cooler on their E90? I am seriously eyeballing the Ar Design Stage I kit which adds and additional cooler to the factory setup, but mounts in front of the upper radiator. Thanks!

i have the driver side AR design oil cooler, working like a charm. Oil temps always very constant and under control.

Are you planning on doing Auto-X? If not, I see no need for an aditional oil cooler.

I think a bigger oil cooler is better than an additional, but additional radiator will help a lot. Besides, the sensor to wake up the oil cooler to work in early stage like 80 or 85 degrees would be recommended than an additional oil cooler added.

I've got the ar design one you're considering, and it's great. I wrote a more detailed review in the link in my signature ("mods review") - you can read it up if you've got the time. Recommended without reservation is the summary.

I had the Dinan High Capacity Oil Cooler on my '07 335i and that thing was amazing. Never saw above 240 on long, spirited highway driving trips. I don't think I ever even hit 250 when thrashing the car.

Excellent quality, fitment, etc. Steep price tag though.

"Alpina," thanks so much for your indepth analysis on not only the oil cooler, but so many other upgrades I have been considering. I emailed AR Design to inquire if their kit comes in an aluminum color like the radiator as opposed to black, but I have received no reply. I am about to drop some six-piston blue caliper Stoptech front brakes (cross-drilled rotors) on her and this oil cooler once I get an answer from AR Design. I am somewhat leary of doing the downpipes right now due to warranty reasons, but my AMS Intercooler, DCI, and JB3 2.0 on 100 octane fuel really makes this puppy scream thus far. I've actually had all four wheels spinning at once! Lot's 'O fun! Thanks again.

i bought a AR Design OC, but I really hate the fact that it must be mounted in front of the radiator so I did a small motification and mounted it right behind my AA IC. I think this is the perfect location for the extra OC.

How on earth did you manage to fit it behind your FMIC?

Last week I attended HP Autowerks Grand Opening. Evolution Racewerks was displaying there race prepped 135i that has been competing in Time Attack series. They are about to release their twin oil cooler system. I took some pics with my cell.

Hey, I was there too! I kept winning all the lottery stuff that I couldn't use remember? So I ended up giving most of it away. I am dead-set on this ar design oil cooler, and I already ordered my Stoptech Big Brake front kit with blue calipers and cross drilled rotors. I think I remember you, but I have my cars confused I think.

Do you have BBS LM's? If yes, I remeber you too. We left at the same time. You looks good! I also have BBS LM's. My E90 was parked in the first parking space entering HP Autowerks on the left. Oil cooler is my next mod, and before I decided which one to purchase I want to see how much Evolution Racewerks twin cooler is going to cost.

the HP Autoworks set-up is interesting, they're running the coolers in series. is that how secondary coolers are typically set-up, or are the factory lines split?

how much extra oil is needed for the coolers in series like that? doesn't this set up also greatly increase restriction when compared to a parallel set up?
