Smartphone Integration 6NF

Ok I know this has been discussed a bit, but I have having a problem with my 6NF option. I just got my car back from the dealer and they installed the iPhone cradle in the armrest. I snap in my iPhone and it seems ok, but I can't access the music! When I go into External Devices in the iDrive menu all I can select is the Aux (which has nothing connected to it). I can't select my iPhone like I did with the Y-Cable. Am I missing something here or did they install it incorrectly?

When I snap in the phone it starts charging so it is connecting to something. I just can't access my music.

The real question is, did anybody test this before you left the dealer?

Either the dealer installed the wrong cradle (there is a 6NF cradle and a non-6NF cradle, by the way) or your car does not have the 6NF option.

They either left out a connector, or did not get the correct (6NF Specific) cradle. I am assuming you looked over the sticker to make sure your car is equipped with the 6nf option.

Yeah I even gave the SA the option code (6NF) when I ordered the car, and the invoice sheet says Smartphone Integration. I am assuming that they ordered the wrong cradle because from what digging I could do that seems to cause everything, but the music to work. Also they couldn't install it when I picked up the car because they didn't have the cradle. I picked up the car today because I needed it to get to a meeting. I am going to e-mail my sales guy to let him know that it doesn't work. I should have expected this as they called me to ask what they are installing exactly...Well it's not a huge deal, but it will need to get fixed. And if my car doesn't have the 6NF option at all...well then the dealer owes me some money.

Do you have the invoice from your install? It will probably list the part number for the cradle and you can look it up/post it here to confirm which one they got.

Definately going to do that. I will actually look at the part number on the cradle as well if I can. It can only be on of two things 1) The wrong cradle 2) 6NF wasn't optioned in which case I should get some money back.

So I took a picture of the part yesterday with my iPhone. You can see the part number is a bit different from what I've read about. However, on the back it does say that it's for the iPhone. Starting to think that the 6NF option at the time of order was missed or mostly likely mis-understood.

Bah! After some more reading it looks like I might have the wrong part...ah well...looks like a trip to the dealer either way. I wish I didn't have to look up all this information and the dealer just knew it.

Just an update and maybe a request for help. So the dealership looked into this and said that my snap in adapter won't work because I don't have the 6NF option in my car. Now I do remember asking this at the time of order. On top of that they said that you can't get 6NF in Canada on any model! Now I find this hard to believe and it seems pretty convenient since if it's true then they won't have to reimburse me for the install. So basically what I am asking if anyone on here from Canada has the 6NF option installed in their car? I just need some backup (if indeed you can get it in Canada). I'll repost this in the Canada forum as well.

Thats little odd. The snap in adapter usually snaps into the slot in the armrest and you need a 6NF option for that. In other words, they could not have installed the snap in adapter if you do not have the 6 NF option. Cars without 6NF do not have any place where you can snap in the adapter!
Is your phone 3g or 3gs? I have heard some incompatilibility between 3gs phones and the 3g adapter. Also, would try talking to another dealer and try using a different iphone too.

I also noticed that the cradle was wrong, but even before the cradle you need the 6NF option. Now I have no idea what they do at the factory to make this work (maybe some pre-wiring). When I ordered my car I asked for the smart phone integration but they didn't get 6NF because they claim it isn't available in Canada. I just want to know if there is any truth to that. Also they were able to install the cradle...should I just ask them to get the proper 683 cradle to see if it would work? Right now according to my VIN I don't have 6NF in my car.

Well this is how this has ended. BMW Canada does not offer the 6NF option therefore cannot help me any more as the car probably never came with the 6NF option in the first place. The dealer was pretty helpful in looking up the information and seeing if there was some way for it to work (play music from the cradle), but according to the information they found and an answer from BMW Canada they do not offer the 6NF option. I also e-mailed BMW Canada customer service to simply ask if they offer the 6NF smartphone integration option for MY2010 and got an answer saying they do not have it on their order sheet, therefore no they do not offer it. In a last ditch effort I am going to request the dealer to exchange my snap-in cradle for the proper one (xxxx683) just to see if it works. Just a warning to anyone in Canada looking to get the 6NF option please check with your dealer and BMW Canada for the specific order code. Even though I knew it I didn't look too closely after they added it to the order and now am stuck with something that is pretty much useless.
