IPhone Charging Woes

OK, I Bought an Iphone AV/USB cable to route the AV out and charge the Iphone via the USB cable from the USB socket in the centre armrest from here:

When i connect the USB part of the cable into the centre armrest it charges ok but isn't long enough for my install.

So I purchased a normal USB 2.0 (backwards compatible with 1.0, 1.1) extension cable 1.5 meters long for the install and guess what....it doesn't ****** charge

Any ideas why not

What do you mean doesn't charge long enough for the install? What install? iPhone 2G chargers will not charge 3G or 3GS iPhones.
