Main dealer "inspection service" query?....
My 330d is now due an 'inspection service'... The car is 3.5 years old now, so chances are this is the last time I'll get the car serviced before selling it, but the thing is I know it's going to need new brakes soon and I'd rather not get these done within the BMW network (due to cost obviously)
If I get the car serviced and they say it needs brakes etc, do I have to get this work done to get the book stamped, or will they just stamp the book and advise what needs doing? thanks

The car will display when the brakes need doing, if it hasn't pinged up on the dash, don't get them done, BMW might argue it won't make the next service in an attempt to get more work from you and cover themselves, but if you start going along that path things get expensive.
Our local dealer tried this when we got our company 320d service, they said the front pads wouldn’t make the next service, we didn’t get them done and they lasted another 8k, which for some owners might be 6-8 months motoring And yes they stamped the book |

Out of interest how long does the car say the brake pads have left?

I've actually booked the car in now, and the cost of the inspection service is only £70 apparently? (this is main dealer). They do read the key first and advise if anything needs doing, so they might try and sting me for new brakes I guess if they're due in under 10k...

If your garage is a decent one, they should just flag up what is coming up shortly, before you sign for the work to be done. If not, ask. I know for myself, just having had an oil service and the inspection service, they flagged up brake fluid and microfilter and asked did I want it done now, or the next visit. As the MOT also falls in the time frame, I opted for doing the 'extras' at MOT time.
Sometimes they recommend doing work that will possibly be needed before the next service visit. Brakes being a typical example. HighlandPete |
