Id say 90% of garages do that.
I worked at one once. They did it regular as clockwork. Ive seen it at my local BMW dealers. Ive seen them ragg new cars at the docks also.

I followed a technician out in an M3 when I picked my car up from the dealers, he certainly didn't let it warm up before putting his foot down.

My local dealer has a 1/4 mile strip and a dyno. Thought it was common to all dealers.

You sure it wasnt just rollers. I very much doubt they had a dyno.

I'm sure they don't do this with every car, but if the visit involves a road-test or the car being collected and delivered then I'd assume it had been ragged. The significant drop in average economy I've seen bears this out, but I've also got my car back with 1/4 tank less fuel in it (although I did ask them to fault find a problem that required road testing) and the best one was with a nail in a rear tyre. Sure it wasn't just the MOT brake testing rollers?

To be honest I'm not surprised in the least bit. They don't give a toss do they? As long as they don't ding the car I am sure given any opportunity to take out the cars they'd jump at it.
I'm surprsied that Carl says they discriminate though and only go for the higher power models. I'd have thought they'd just thrash the shit off anything and everything they could get their hands on! Again, not surprised! |
