Hello all,
We have ordered a 328xi Coupe' for ED with: A35 Monaco blue KASW black leatherette Titanium trim ZGH Sport package with style 197 wheels, which apparently has a lower ride height with AWD? 507 Rear PDC, front is a dealer installed option? 302 Badge delete 415 Electric rear sun shade 488 Lumbar We would also like to get: 441 Smokers delete, a dealer installed option that simply removes the astray and replaces it with a sunglass holder. 493 Storage compartment package 418 Trunk package Which BMW Canada told my dealer is not available. I thought I read somewhere on the POST someone had sucessfully ordered these. Any thoughts? We did not order: 639 BMW Assist 430 Auto dimming mirrors Because of the problems posted here, so thank you for the heads up. We plan to get floor mats, mud flaps, and a rear fog light switch while in Europe. We are going to pick it up in Halifax and drive back to BC this spring. Has anyone done that? |

Front PDC is not an option in NA supposedly due to liability/insurance issues. Didn't know about the smoker delete. Good idea - will look into it as a retrofit. I've a very similar car (E92, Monaco Blue, leatherette (cream), sports pack, 18" 197 wheels) but went for iDrive and BT. I don't think it rides lower since the Sports Pack on the xi doesn't have sports suspension (it does buy you the sports seats, etc). Great choice all around! Enjoy your transcontinental trip but I hope there's no snow in the Spring as the Summer tires will **not** be fun on ice.

How do you like BT in the car? Does it work well for you? Do you find you use it? We will be going to Europe late April, so a small chance of snow.

I got the impression that BT is not compatible with all BT phones? Or am I wrong?

BT is great if you have a compatible phone (you need to search for this - many BT phones are compatible but some are not). I use a Blackberry 8700 with a huge address book and it uploads extremely well for my iDrive display. The steering wheel button for calls is very handy although I don't use voice commands much. I never touch my phone when driving and the built-in mic and speaker work very well.

I wish we could spec out our cars like the rest of the free world.

What did your dealer/BMW Canada said was not available? Was it the Front PDC only? If it's that, I am not surprised as no "North American" models have it. The others are just simple add-ons that you can get even after you ordered you car.
Anyways.. it's rare to hear someone doing ED in Canada. Keep us updated on your car ordering experience. What are the price difference for doing ED in Canada? |

The ordering experience is a little extra hassle, but not bad. After ordering the car and getting an available for delivery date we gave a deposit. Then we chose the insurance package (we went with package #2 for 2 weeks) fill out the tourist delivery (Canadian term?) form, have it notarized so BMW can arrange the insurance on your behalf, and hand it back to the dealer for conformation. That is where we are at now. Price is $42410 CAD A35 $800 ZGH $2000 507 $450 320 FREE 415 $420 488 $450 Special order fee $400 Hazard kit and European licence plates $150 Insurance @$175 6.1% Canadian government import duty @$2862 on value of used car to be determined by Federal Canadian government 6% GST @$2815 on value of used car to be determined by Federal Canadian government Ocean freight charge $270 European handling fee $240 Marine insurance $215 Canadian brokerage fee $180 Port fee $60 Agriculture Canada inspection fee $30 Drop off fee for Antwerp, Belgium $0 20% Export deopsit $9416. This deposit is refunded, less all the fees that BMW guarantees will be paid on your behalf, once the car has landed in Canada. It is to ensure Canadian market cars do make it to Canada, and not Russia etc. Transport insurance to drive the car from Halifax to BC $? Provincial vehicle inspection for importing a used car into BC $90 7% PST $? on value of used car after driving across Canada to be determined by Provincial government (ICBC) Tourist delivery is for the experience of driving your new car out of the factory, on the Autobahn, and around the Nurburgring. This is not a cost saving means of getting that new BMW you want. |

Base Price $42410 for the 328xi Coupe? Is that after negotiation on the price?
Wow.. I am overwhelmed by the long invoice list. It really sucks that we don't get anything good out of ED other than the experience which may be priceless . |

That is list, dealer cost is 9% below list (9.88% on options), and my opinion is that they need to make 5 to 7%. The new training fee that BMW charges the dealer comes out of the dealers margin. Mark up on a BMW is very little compared to the Nissan, Toyota, and GM dealerships I have worked at. I get my numbers from Car Cost Canada.
We are also planning to do a factory tour, BMW museum if it is open, catch a BMW Ring taxi with Sabine I hope, and find some good twisty roads on the way to Antwerp. Has anybody done a tour of the M facility? For the sake of the next batch of Canadian Tourist Delivery customers that take delivery after the new BMW Welt (World) opens this summer, I hope our relaunched TD program is improved. Even the Volvo program is better. The dealers do not have a say in much of anything compared to the USA, it appears BMW Canada has them on a short leash.
