I got a quote from USAA for a 2005 Gallardo, at 5000 miles/year it was only $150 more per month than my 2010 C-class...

Umbrella policy. 1 to 2 million in coverage. Sometimes with mileage restrictions (5k a year seems common).

Yep.

Remember most of these guys only have the cars insured as "leisure" and not "daily".

My friend had a 355 spyder back in the day and he was paying $3500 a yr through Travelers. Though, after he deliberately rammed his car into a concrete wall after getting into a fight with his gf the insurance company refused to pay.

I've heard from insurance agents that companies are insuring the driver more so than the car, which makes sense. It explains why teenagers have crazy high rates and supercar are relativley cheap to insure.

That's on top of your regular auto policy though. If you're not carrying automobile insurance on a vehicle that is in a wreck, your umbrella will not pay for it.

My viper insurance is $300 a year (2k miles/yr), my 135 is $800 a year (8k miles/yr), both listed as pleasure vehicles. I have other vehicles listed as primary vehicles.

For comparison I was quoted $2000 a year for a new lp640 (2k miles/yr)... got my first viper when I was 25, back then I paid $1200 a year (5k miles/yr).
