Charging $ for a loaner (specifically Ottawa -- Ottos v. Elite)
Is it routine to charge $30 for a loaner? Otto's want to charge me...does anyone have experience with getting a loaner at Elite?
Thx Also, any opinion on the level of service (for maintenance work) at Ottos or Elite? |

Generally, to charge for a loaner or give it free is at the discretion of individual dealers since they are not compensated by manufacturers for this. Mercedes might because they are corporate dealers, but I believe this is not the case with BMW/Audi. Although, in Toronto I've yet to be charged for a loaner on any one of our family cars.

Otto's charges for a loaner. I used it once and they gave me a pretty new 323i. As for service, I haven't had anything major done yet, but I've had no complaints about the routine stuff. I had a low coolant warning that started showing up just as it was due for an oil change. I guess they could have just topped it up and it probably would have been good for another year, but they found a small leak in one of the hoses and fixed it.

I was at Otto's two weeks ago for some warranty work and this time they didn't charge me for a loaner. I've been there 3 or 4 times in the last year for warranty work and its been 50/50 being charged for a loaner. maybe it depends on what type of mood the SA is in... who knows

In my experience, its all depends on what kinda work are you having it done. If just regular oil change, and if you request for loaner, yes you will get charge on the loaner. But if you are having major work done which take a day or 2 and cover by warranty, you should get a free loaner.
