Question Disconnect battery - how? (E90)

Sorry newbish question but how would i disconnect battery SAFELY in order to remove airbag?

On a related note, will i have errors once i reconnect it, and what are the common problems people experience after they fiddled with battery (assuming they haven't done anything bad to it, just connect reconnect).

Also, what precautions i should take when disconnecting it aside from leaving doors open. Are there parts I shouldn't touch, etc. Appreciate some help on that from those who've done it.

I just did an SWS-8 install by myself and had to remove the front seats which have airbag sensors in them. I just disconnected the negative battery terminal and disconnected the yellow plugs under the seats. The airbags didn't throw any codes while when plugged back in however my car went through some sort of check and thought my 4x4 was some how messed up. A few feet of driving solved the problem. Why are you removing the airbags anyway?

Ohh and leave a rag between the negative wire and terminal when you disconnect it so it doesn't accidentally reconnect.

I'm planning to take off the airbag in order to put CF trim onto the steering wheel.

I changed my OEM battery to an aftermarket. I do not have any error code. I use the DIY on this forum.

Which aftermarket battery are you running for your E90?

Old thread, I know.

But I came across this and I hope that you took your car to the dealer. If you have to ask how to disconnect a battery you really should not be doing anything to your car but putting gas in it.

open trunk - wait at least until the light in the start button has gone out - that's when most of the ECU's went into sleep mode - I would wait a few more minutes so all is in sleep mode - disconnect negative terminal first. Don't open any doors, hood, or get close with CA in that period
