No sound in my car?
Initially I had non-sport steering wheel. I upgraded to the performance steering wheel as well as added the paddle shifter retrofit kit. I used a brand new wheel, paddles and airbag. Nothing was used and the wheel lights up with the RPMs and everything seems fine except that I have no chimes or sound for my radio. the radio turns on, everything visually is good however no sound. Any possible explanations for this? If its a fuse, help me out here because that chart in the glovebox makes no sense to me. I did use a splice on the cigarette lighter power for the steering wheel. I haven't gotten a chance to test the paddles because my car is on ramps waiting for an exhaust to be finished.

I'm not sure about the chimes, but as far as not having sound coming from the radio, make sure the volume knob hasn't been pushed in (mute function). It happened to me once and I saw the "no sound" icon in iDrive...wondered how the hell to fix it.

Do you get a message on the idrive saying "No warning tones"? I had that and it was traced to a leaking left rear cluster allowing water onto the amplifier in the boot, er, trunk. Seems preposterous, though, if all you've done is the steering wheel.

I don't see any warnings. And its not the mute button, as I've mentioned, ALL chimes don't work. No dinging when I put in the key or anything. I have a CF trunk, but I don't think it has anything to do with the amp although i've heard of that before.

I hope you didn't cut the fiberoptic line, which runs along the driver's side to the HU. Also, you said you tapped the cigg lighter power. which one did you use? The one in the armrest or the one in front of the shifter? Did you remove the radio? I can't see the harness connected to the radio coming loose. It is held in by a locking lever and the other wires for the antennae and what not are tough to loosen too.

Check the fuse in the upper right corner of the fusebox in the glovebox. It is for the radio.

I believe my iDrive was working fine but no sound until I replaced the fuse. If you need to search for a blown fuse because you can't decipher the heiroglyphics of the fuse map, make certain you replace the fuses in the exact same slot. There are a lot of unused fuse positions.

try your lighter....
there are more than 1 fuse for the audio system - the one marked radio is just for the headunit, there is a separatenfuse for the amp |

Not sure exactly what your problem may be. I ran into a similar situation in my X6 with the sound going completely off on my radio, cd, mp3, idrive, etc. I took it into the dealership and they replaced the amp and all the sound came back ;p

I went and checked pretty much every fuse that could be related. Can't find a blown one... I wish I had a bently manual right now I could identify the exact fuse. Which is the amplifier fuse? I have an 05/07 build date.
EDIT: I remember scott telling me F11 is the amp fuse.. I'll check it out but I'm pretty sure I already looked. |

an early 07 should have the separate speaker under the dash for the gongs too, it may not just be the L7 amp/fuse for it. did you have the radio completely removed? as in, had the quadralock connector disconnected and most bus connector unhooked? very well could be the most bus not seated into the radio properly, which means no communication to the amp... could be loose at the amp too, but seems less likely as I see no reason to be messing around back at the amp for a steering wheel install...

I never took out the radio at all, but I was into some of the connectors on the passenger footwell area. I took it into a special friend of mine at the dealer. He found that one of the MOST cables had been left un-plugged. He fixed my driver lock actuator, diagnosed my TPM issue telling me the batteries were likely dead and will be reprogramming my headlights for me. He's charging me $40.... This guy is the Sh*t. |
