Rattling noise coming from underneath my E92??
I've noticed my e92 is experiencing some rattling noise almost like if you shake a marble in a aluminum soda can. So far this is what I have discovered.
1. It does not do it when the car is cold only when it's reach operating temperature (needle on the middle of temp gauge) 2. It does not do it on neutral 3. It makes the sound or at least I can hear it under load ie. taking off from a stop sign or red light. It is when it sounds like the example I gave of a marble in a soda can being shaken. 4. Note* There isn't any check engine lights or any warning lights that come on and the vehicle drives and operates / shift perfectly. It's just a rather annoying noise coming from a bmw.. Let me know what you guys think.. It's almost as the sound always intensifies when under load. Very few times I have heard it on idle. I can rev the car in neutral and it does not make the sound. Only when it's in drive and has load. I was thinking catalytic converters.. not sure. Any input would help before going to the stealership. Thanks guys |

I noticed my brother's Honda Civic had the same problem when I was using his car to practice getting my license. His car would make a loud rattling sound people can hear and before he took his car on a road trip he brought it to the dealership for maintenance and mentioned the problem to them. He found out it was mainly the exhaust and that the catalytic converter was lose and was rusting. It only made the sound after driving it for about maybe 20 minutes and whenever it was coming to stops.
