New member asking an amateur question about headlight trim...

Hello all,

First post on here, just joined a few minutes ago. Dealer is prepping my 06 330 as we speak, and I pick it up in a few days (production build date 8/22/06 - didn't know they were still making 06's that late, I must be getting tail end 06 production?)

Question: I believe I have seen E90 headlights with white trim instead of yellow, am I correct? Is that an easily swappable part? Where to buy? Will BMW install? About how much for labor? Is it part of the whole light casing, or just a cheap little insert? (hopefully the latter....).

Excuse me for my ignorance, I am new to the E90, and I have been trying to search on here and google, but I don't know what those are called. I tried searching for "little yellow thingie", but that didn't produce any hits .

I found "clear eyes" on here, but that seems to be referring to different bulbs, not the yellow (white) trim around the frame. (?)

And while I am asking stupid questions: why are some yellow and some white? Does white signify ED? (total guess).

Again, sorry to start my relationship with this community on such a dumb question, but interested in the answer. And figured I might as well introduce myself anyway.....

Thanks. Great forum, looking forward to being part of it. I learn fast

welcome
glad you made use of the function, it's a very handy tool

the "white" light you are referring to is the European-spec headlights (and that's pretty much what the rest of the world gets, while us North Americans get the amber colored insert)

The reason why we have it in NA is because of US DOT laws requiring amber reflector, and us Canadians get it subsequently since we're right next door.

the most thourough way to get rid of the amber is to swap for european headlights, depending on the type of headlight you have, the price varies greatly, from halogen (600 USD) to adaptive xenons (> 1,000USD).

An economical way is to apply tint film on it, currently there's a groupbuy going on here:

thanks

Thanks you for the prompt and detailed response.

ah, it's the whole piece....makes sense, this ain't a Ford....

I might have "$300 liked" white, but I definitely don't "$1,000 like" white

Tint strips look ok, but definitely not my cup of tea.

So yellow it is! That's fine, thanks again. Can't wait to pick up the car.

Actually i think he's talking about the Angel Eyes, the yellow rings around the xenon bulbs.
If so then search the forum for Brex, Piaa or Lux.
If that's the case then you don't have to change the headlight housing and it shouldn't run you that much $$$.
I'm not sure of the price though since i have a E92.
Good Luck

I hear ya Canuck , but he referred to the light as being yellow and not orange(which i think the trim is if i'm not mistaken) and from the looks of it he doesn't really know the "terms"...
Might be mistaken though.
