Appropriate tip
Hey guys, taking my 07 e92 into the stealership tomorrow and figured on arrival I'd give the SA a solid "handshake" (figured $100 should be plenty). The car is going in because I've been hearing a lot of squeaking from the front end at low speeds (right about 10-15 mph, basically when in parking lots). Also, the plastic guide that holds the batter cable (over top the air box) has a few broken tabs on it now (may or may not have been as a result of installing the aFe DCI) and sags down. Only mod on the car currently is the aFe DCI, but was contemplating taking that off (the shop foreman said that I could get an intake without voiding the warranty, but just cautioned that they had another customer do that and it "apparently" caused engine surging). 2 Questions: 1) should I remove the DCI if asking them to take a look at the broken tabs 2) is the $100 an appropriate tip? Thanks for any advice.

Have heard of a bunch of guys tipping the SAs when they have mods to help have them overlooked. I have a DCI plus the Rixster gauge and just don't want a hassle. Plus I might have accidentally broke the battery cable guide and would like to get it replaced under warranty.

Since when is "tip" synonymous with "bribe"?

I would just spend the 20 minutes to put the stock airbox back in. I had the same problem with the plastic cable guide (some of my clips were broken too) but got it fixed for free under warranty.
Also had the squeaking brake problem that the dealership took care of. Apparently it's very common. |

dude tip me $100 i'll take the intake off for you...
tipping SA won't help. if they find problem that needs to be addressed under warranty claim, it's not up to SA, as much as SA would love to help you out, their job is to report and so they must report and is up to the dealer. and trust me the dealer will try to find any and all reason to void warranty and charge customer for parts and labor if they can instead of have it covered under warranty. just invest another 30 minutes and save yourself lot of trouble...

Still at stealership. Turned the gauge off, was super nice to the SA even though she was not friendly at all, made some small talk, slowly winning her over - no issues yet. Fingers crossed.

i don't think you need to worry much. boost guage can't really void warranty. if that does, then any and all aftermarket alarm or sound system should be treated the same...

Okay, so the stealership left me pretty frustrated (no surprise really). I had told them about the squeaking coming from the front of the car - stating that it wasn't specifically under braking, but just at slow speeds (10-15mph), was more pronounced when turning and that I thought it had something to do with the suspension. They checked the brakes and reported back that they pads were within tolerances - great. Told them not to wash the car, but they washed it anyway, and poorly I might add. As for the plastic cable guide they decided first that it could just be shoved back into place, but then came back and said that the clips were broken. HOwever, they would have to consult with the service manager to see if they could replace it since there was after-market "stuff" under the hood. Apparently they didn't notice the boost gauge in the car, but did notice the tube that tapped into the vaccuum line, but didn't know what it was for - yikes! When I told the SA what it was for she said "oh, to give the engine more power?" YIKES!! I explained to her what it was for and she agreed that it was a smart thing to have in the car. So we'll see what they decide to do. Hopefully they'll just replace the part without a hassle.

First of all, as a sales manager of a large RV dealer, I really resent the term "stealership" but whatever, some people have definately been effed before.
Second, why would the SA risk his job to do something like overlook mods. If the guy is a professional and respects his customers and his employer, he will do right by you. |

Have now moved across the country, new dealership, new SA. Gave a Starbucks gift card and I always get a loaner, the SA put a lot of effort into resolving an issue, called out of the blue just to see how the car was running - is a gift necessary, no, but definitely hasn't hurt the relationship with the SA or the rest of the dealership. I think the SA I deal with is pretty top notch anyway, but definitely something I will do again.
