CPO Extended Warranty - 6 years 100k miles
Hey everyone. I know that when you buy a CPO from the dealer, the car has an extended warranty of 100k miles or 6 years, however that only covers that major issues, no wear and tear am I correct? The dealer told me for $2000 more I could purchase the maintenance free option which would also cover the wear and tear items for the full 6 years or 100k miles. Would it be worth it to purchase this or would I be better off purchasing whatever items need to be replaced from somewhere else for less?

The extended maintenance doesnt cover wear and tear items (like if you seat leather ripped or trim is peeling). It covers maintenance like oil changes, filter changes, etc.

so 2000+2000 . that is 4k gone..what do you get.. a good night sleep.. worry free..do the math. if you change oil ever 15k, do everything by the book. keep the wear to mini.. pretty sure you can save youself around 2k .. if no major issue is going to happen

No to extended maintenance, it is a rip off. (unless you are planning on running the car as a taxi and plan on doing 3-4 brake jobs within the next two years.)
As for the extended warranty/CPO, I know that on all BMW boards, it seems like there is a HUGE number of people who all advise you to get it. But, you should look at specifics of your car before deciding. Don't let the 100k miles marketing wording fool you. It is simply 2 years of warranty, for 20-30k (or whatever) mileage that you are going to put on your car. So, - if your car is 35k miles now, and you are only putting in another 15k in the next two years, are the problems that are going to come up within the first 50k miles worth the CPO price? Say a big ticket item fail historically at say around 70k miles, which for you is say 6 months to a year after the CPO runs out... you have paid for the CPO and now you have to pay for the big ticket item again. - if your car is a 328 vs. the more expensive to repair turbo 335... lower risk or higher risk? - if you have had some common problems fixed close to the end of the 4/50k orig warranty... those items are all covered for 2 years anyway. CPO will not add any benefit on those. I am not saying don't get the cpo, or get the cpo... I am saying look at your personal car and driving habits and ... decide based on all that whether you need it or not. |

It's a 328i and I'm the type to always do all scheduled maintenance. I drive maybe 12,000 miles per year and generally take exceptional care of my car. Yes the salesman was pushing very hard for me to buy the maintenance and even said it was a mistake for me not to get it.

They'll say anything to sell a car. Just put the 2k in the bank and do your own maintenance. Like others have said, it's mostly just oil changes and a brake fluid flush.

Well I can get the front and rear pads and rotors for my 328i for $375 from Tischer so aside from having them installed I don't see spending $2000 for the maintenace upgrade.

They don't flush the tranny or coolant or diff, or change the fuel filter, those are suppose to be lifetime BS
Airfilter get a KN, and clean it every 30k, spark plugs are 90 dollars, cabin filter is 40 dollars, brake pads and rotors are ~600-700 for parts, thats front/rear rotors pads sensors. Everything you can do yourself, if you don't your better off with a indy shop @ 90 a hour vs 150 at the dealer. |
