Lowering 335i xDrive Coupe Help

I am looking at getting a 2009 335i xDrive Coupe with Sport Package. The car has huge wheel gaps and I wanted to know how I could lower it so that it sits at the same stance and height as a 335i w/sport package (non xDrive).

I am sure many people have done this mod before. I called Turner Motor sports and they told me to get the H&R Springs and it would drop it about 1inch all around.

Will the H&R give the car enough of a drop to get it at the same height as a 335i? Turner Motorsport was not sure since they have not measured the ride heights before and after.

Should I be looking at other springs besides H&R? Note: I am not looking to spend a lot on this, I think the H&R springs were in the $200 range which is perfect.

Personally, I would always recommend coilovers (I am biased). I don't know how much travel the OEM struts have on them but I do know that you will def be in for a bumpier ride and will be riding closer to your bump stops.

If your budget is in the $200-$300 range then definitely go for the springs if you are not buying the car.

Check out the XI section of this forum. Lots of recommendations and the list of compatible suspension components in there.

Is this car a lease or purchase?

I personally recommend the H&R sport springs for the 335xi. I have had nothing but good experiences with H&R. The quality is top notch, and the ride is still comfortable.

You won't want to install sport springs (H&R) with the OEM non-sport shocks. The shocks will wear faster and the ride will be horrible and very bouncy--check numerous posts on this in the XI forum. Either replace both shocks and springs, or go coilovers for best results.

The car has Sport Package but it came with the 17 inch wheels which I am looking to replace with 18 or 19 inch OEM.

Also it is a lease and I am not looking to spend too much. I still want to do some other mods like a front/rear spoiler, tint, wheels, angel eye upgrade. I just want the 335xi to be lower so it sits like the 335i sport. If the H&R or Eibach can do this for $2-300 then that would be perfect.

Any other suggestions? Also does having sport package resolve the issue with having a bouncy ride?

I'm in the same boat.
I also lease a 335i Xdrive + sport package w/ 17in and I agree the wheel gap is huge!.

I want a solution that's easy to remove in case I have to take the car to the dealer for maintenance/repair.
I'm sure coil overs would be easier to swap, since i don't have to compress the springs to take them off the struts. But they are also much more $$$
So I might have to deal with just springs.

The H&R springs sound like the perfect thing for you!

Im not leasing my ride (coil overs or spring/shock combo wouldn't make a difference to the dealership lease or not) but I have a E90 335Xi and just replaced the springs and shocks with Eibachs and Bilsteins. It is a great combo! It does not slam your vehicle down which I didn't want. Check out my thread on the Xi forum. I am waiting to take some newer pics after I get a chance to properly wash and wax the car.

Im in the Harrisburg area as well!

I am not looking for a slammed look either I just want it to look like a 335i not a 335xi. I read a bunch of posts and i still confused. I saw some pics and it looks like the H&R lower the back the same as the front which means the raked look (front wheel gap larger than back wheel gap) isnt solved. I am not looking into coilovers because it is out of the budget for a leased car.

I guess Im down to figuring out if there are springs which lower the rear slightly less than the front so that the stance is correct.

What about using the oem springs from a 335i sport? Has anyone done this or have pics of it? Anyone have pics from the eibach springs or other brands?

I heard there is some "spacer" on the front suspension that can be removed and it evens out the ride height.

Maybe some else can confirm this.??.

Eibach only makes springs for RWD not the xi. This is important to note as the springs are designed to be used on a lighter vehicle than the xi so, over time, they may ride increasingly harsher. However, there are a number of people who are running the Eibach springs. Most are pairing them with Bilstein sport shocks/struts.

H&R is the name of the company that makes the springs. They make 2 types - Sport (xi and rwd) and Race (rwd).

This is hashed to death in the XI forum. Clear your mind of the notion of springs. They are pointless to put on the XI and will worsen your handling.

Lowering 335i xDrive Coupe Help

Hi,
New to the forum. I have had some Dinan work done through a local dealer. Stage II performance software and Stage III suspension.

Stage III suspension.....(check out dinan's website for details)
but in short, in the front end they left the front struts and upgraded the springs and added camber plates. It was supposed to lower the car, but it was limited with the stock struts..........It is disappointing, the car looks stock on the front and the back looks awesome.........but together, it looks strange. front too high, back too low. I thought Dinan would be the best, but I have been disappointed overall. Engine tune is fantastic.

After all that cash, I am now thinking of redoing it....KW V3, Bilstein PSS10's,
H&R street performance coilovers........still not sure.

Anyone know what is the ultimate suspension package with the combination of smooth ride quality driving around on bumby massachusetts roads without sacrificing performance when you decided to take it up a notch.

Thanks

Fitzy

Fitzy,
I probably bore the forum with these photos but I'm completely happy with my V1 setup. You mentioned you are potentially going for a change so I thought I'd provide some feedback. Here are a few shots:

could not have said it better myself. coil give you the option to raise the heigh of the car when needed, such as a big snowfall. because im in the NE and do alot of snowboarding, i'll be ordering H&R coils within the next month. i havnt heard many things about them, but the little that i have heard has been nothing but positive. not only do they give you a good drop, but in terms of ride, they do make the handling of the Xi's much sportier. the main reason im choosing them over KW is because of the notorious "squeak" that can sometimes be heard while traveling over speed bumps. not to say that every KW set will sound like that, but it is as random as the HPFP on 335s.
i strongly feel that coils are the way to go in the NE. if you are going to do springs, make sure you pair them with a stronger strut set up. you mdo not want to have to replace the OEM struts (lease or not).
for any questions about H&R experiences, PM member gumpy, who has been auto-x-ing a 335xi sedan and has won a couple of competitions.
