differences in rubber thickness will look ridiculous - only works on cars where the height (not just the width) is staggered also...

Definitely not something you would see on a bimmer. Vette's have 18's front 19's rear.
When done RIGHT it can look good. I'm not sure how it would look on a e92, but if it was kept to a minimum it may look good. This is real popular in the sport truck scene. A lot of guys use to run 18s front/20's rear. Now guys are rollin' 20's front/22s rear and even 22's up front and 24's in the rear. This way they minimize the cutting in the fender-wells and moving components around. The rear is just a simple cut of the bed and you're tuckin' 24's. |

can someone explain to me why it's a no-no to put staggered rims on a FWD car? sorry i just don't know why - i thought it was just a good look - does it actually serve a purpose?
coz i've seen cars like TT's with staggered wheels and they look good but then it's a FWD? or could be a AWD maybe

I think it is so funny when people do this because it completely defeats the purpose of a staggered setup. I have seen it on a few TL's also and people seem to do it because they think it looks better but IMHO it looks like you have no clue.

thanks for the reply
![]() so wider tyres at the rear wouldn't hurt a FWD? just be kinda useless? would wider tyres in the rear increase understeer? wider tyres at the front would look funny ![]()

oversteer = when braking, rear end lifts up from normal laws of physics, this causes the back end to break out, and you end up "turning" more than you intended --> oversteer.
understeer = the wider tires in back would give you more traction and because the are not the "power" tires in a FWD car, the car would turn less than you want it to --> understeer. The reason for the staggered stup in our cars is twofold: 1) more rubber in the back means more power to the road 2) to minimiaze the oversteer associated with hard-cornering ("spirited driving") an effective staggered setup for a FWD car would be wider tires in the front.

Yes as I said before the optimal setup for a front wheel drive would be wider on front. This is usually done with the width increase to the inside so the lip is the same.

![]() anyway back on topic, i dun think a staggered setup as in larger diameter wheels in the back would look good on a 3 series

Yes, new Corvettes have staggered widths and wheel sizes, but unless the front and rear tire diameters are the same, I believe the flat tire sensor will register a flat tire.
