Speaker upgrade options
Hi everyone,
I'm aware that there are a lot of different threads on the audio system already but I'm still unsure. I have an E91 and have had a good read about either the tweeter upgrade or one of the amp upgrades (Alpine or Blaupunkt). Tweeters seems to be a relatively simple upgrade, but looking at my car the corner mouldings seem to be joined to the door frame, not separate as shown in various pictures. Has anyone done the tweeter upgrade on an E91? The other thought wast to swap the existing door speakers for some better ones - can't I get combo speakers that have a built-in tweeter? Sure I had these many moons ago in my Orion.... Its a company car and I am not great at DIY (house, car, garden...) so I'm looking for better sound without doing anything expensive or fiddly. |

If you look at realoem I think it shows the frame being one piece on the E90/1 but not on the E92.
If you are after a simple install go for the Alpine one from what I have read. It is OEM so wont affect any warranty as long as BMW fit it. |

The warranty thing isn't quite so simple because when I had a problem with my Alpine my local dealer would only fix it if I paid or if the dealer who fitted it would pay.... which they did.
Cracking system though, would recommend it, and also like the fact that its BMW approved.

Think I'm going to have to go Alpine. Drove in this morning (85 mins each day) playing different CDs and its not the tweeters that's the problem, its the subs. Am I right in thinking that the stick system drives the subs off the front channel? Does the Alpine system provide them with thei own properly amplified channel which stops them distorting?
I've had it nearly a week now and I adore my E91. The engine (320d) is the most power I've ever had, it rides beautifully and corners like I can't quite believe. It's whisper quiet inside and very well built. I love the kerchunk when I shut the tailgate. All wonderful. But the audio system sucks. |

Reading through the Alpine and Blaupunkt threads, also still looking at replacement speakers. One question on those - the replacement speakers on the Alpine kit have 3 screw mounts. Most speakers I see as potential replacements have 4 screw mounts. Would these fit?
