Rear Brake Sensor Fit

I changed rear pads and reused the sensor. Apparently, I didn't get it inserted properly because the sensor came out and shredded. I installed a new sensor, but nothing seems to make it lock into place in the brake pad. There was a U shaped piece of metal which I thought was part of the old sensor which I jammed into the sensor slot and then I pushed the new sensor. It might work, but I am wondering if I am missing a piece here. I am not seeing anything on a parts diagram. I used OEM pads.

Any ideas are welcome. Thanks.

Yes. I bought it from the dealer along with the pads.

The old sensor being shredded sounds like it was forced out of its position and may have caused some damage. Why would you reuse a sensor? To my understanding, the sensors wear with the pads and need to be replaced once worn/pads are replaced.

Yeah that's what the dealer says. But I did not do that when I replaced my pads. My pads were worn alright, but no where near the sensor. I don't really give a crap about replacing that unless it's torn/shredded.

I replaced the pads because I was going to a track weekend. The pads were not worn enough to get into the sensor, so the sensor wasn't worn at all. I just didn't want to run out of brake pads at the track. I have reused sensors in other cars without problem.

My problem now is that, having destroyed the old one by not having it locked into place, I cannot figure out how the sensor is supposed to lock into place. The end of the sensor has pieces of metal which seem to be part of a clip, but the place where it goes on the pad is just smooth offering nothing into which the sensor clips.
