Advice: Need to Replace Battery

Hey guys,

My friend has an 06 325i with low miles and it had an issue starting yesterday. The dealer qouted him almost 600$ to replace battery. Is there any other way to replace this specific battery without throwing error codes? Also He is still under warranty but apparantly this is not covered?

This is new to me, b/c I have an 06 330i with 72k miles and have not had to replace the batt yet. He only has about 38k and is already needing a replacement.
Any advice on how to deal with this would be appreciated, thanks again.

I could be wrong, but in my opinion a battery is a battery so if it fits in the slot, the terminals hook up, and you can tie it down theres no reason why it shouldn't work. But who really knows with BMW. How much does it cost to buy the battery from BMW?

If you search on battery you may find a lot of useful information. But here is the jist. This based on with BMW TIS instructions for replacing the battery. Keep in mind the BMW TIS is the serivice manual the BMW techs use to repair BMWs, so it is directly from the manufacturer. I've also read the procedure in the Bentley repair manual. Both sources give the same procedure on how to replace the battery.

The battery negative cable contains a circuit board that monitors the battery condition. The negative cable can be easily damaged if you ham-fist it when removing it. You can break the circuit board and trash the cable. A new cable is nearly $200. Once you've removed and replaced the battery with a new battery you need to reprogram the car to tell the ECU the battery is new. The car changes the charging perimeters of the charging system as the batteryt ages and its condition changes. Not reprogramming the battery will allow the newly installed battery to not be properly charged, thus not allowing it to provide the optimum service it is designed to deliver.

Search the DIY section. Someone did a battery DIY about a year ago.
