Springs / Point me in the right direction
hey guys,
i'm about to purchase some H&R springs for my E92 335i i have been told by the stocker in melbourne that the modbargins H&R Springs wont fit my car as american e92 have different specs. they have quoted me the following springs 29183-2 $562.00 or 29187-1 $492.00 + $260.00 fitting are these prices good? is what he is saying correct about buying springs off modbargins? what would you go for? are there any other options? and are there any other places in melbourne i should go to get this done? thanks in advance!

Those prices sound ok, I was quoted $650au for the springs. There are 2 types, sports and race with the latter being very low. They are the same here and the US. There are also 'euro race' variety but I've never actually seen them for sale in the US.
I just fitted H&R sports today with the help of Mark. I got mine from ECS Tuning in the US. Although shipping is almost as much as the springs, I ordered a few other parts at the same time so it wasn't so bad. The sports seem to be just the right drop; aggressive, yet I still got up the steep driveway. Initial review is they are a fair bit stiffer on corners and slightly 'bouncier' due to the OEM dampers being a little soft. The road noise and feel through the steering wheel feels more pronounced, but this may be an alignment issue which I am getting done on monday. Make sure your install includes an alignment which is essential after a height change. |

I could guess the difference from the US spec springs may be only due to the different vehicle weight. For example if you use springs intended for a 335i, when fitted on a 325i the front of the car will sit higher due to the lighter engine.
Have you considered getting genuine BMW performance springs? |

Got my alignment done. Took them 2hrs and they had to drill out the front lock pins so they could adjust the camber since it was maxed out. They said the alignment was way out and now it's done, the feel through the steering is smooth. Comfort level is only slightly worse than stock, so pretty happy so far.
After the drop the front camber went to -1.8 I think and it's now 1.3, whereas stock is around .8 (for memory). 1.3 is as close to stock as they can get them now, but the slightly neg camber suits my driving style fine |
