Tim, very odd as I am experiencing this exact same issue right now too. All lights are stock, and my warning light is now on daily, with no lights out.

There's a bulletin about the E92s about the rear bulb holders. They don't hold the bulbs in quite secure enough, so an updated bulb holder is now available.

Hey where is that bulletin?

I get the left tail lamp malfunction, with an upside down light bulb with an ! in the middle and a sunburst around the bulb.

I tried to go into the diy and the bc stalk, I got to reset, held the bs stalk in and I never did get the little clock to circle.

Again can you link me to the TSB on the lamp?

I have had this problem intermittently for a while now, and just this week it started coming on more often. Well today it came on every time I started the car and now it just won't go away. Both tail/brake lights work fine.

Mine is the left tail lamp malfunction as Silvrevo mentions above. I would think that an '09 model wouldn't have a loose bulb holder.

Anyone have an update on this?

There may be a bulb out! I had this issue on my '07. There are duplicate bulbs back there, you can have one out and it will not look like it from the outside because there are two bulbs, and one is still working. You really need to stick your head in the trunk on look back into the housing to see if one of the "white" bulbs is out.

I found one out. They are easily replacable for a few $ and then the dash warning light went out and stayed out. It takes almost no effort to change the bulbs out.

See this thread on the subject with pics, DIY steps, bulb info:

I guess I shouldn't be shocked to to see a known problem happening on a new '09. They don't fix the HPFP; rather, just replace it with another that's sure to fail. So they don't fix the tail light problem...just fix it with another part that will fail.

I don't think I'll buy a BMW again.

I got this warning today, kind of shocked the bulb would go out so quickly because my car is only a couple months. I guess I have to take it into the dealer next week.

Same problem on an '08 e92 M3....dealer changed the bulb and all was good for 2 days, then warning light reappeared. Disconnected the lighting wires, reattached and problem is gone...for now.
