windex over rainx
I just rain-x'ed by windows and after driving around in bug-infested Ashburn for a day the windshield is filled with all kinds of crap.
Does windexing a windshield after applying rain-x wipe off the rainx? On a separate note, I know all of the non-chrome wheels on the e90's are painted. Does that mean it's NOT safe to use a metal brush when cleaning the wheels and only a cloth is safe? Thanks. |

It's been a while since I've used rain-x, but I would think that windex would remove the rain-x.
As far as the whels, i would never use a metal brush on any part of my car. I just simply cool my wheels off with water, spray with the wheel cleaner of my choice, and then go over them with a sponge. But, not the same sponge that I use on the car. Once that is done, I rinse, and then dry with a terry cloth. |

The Rain-X is hydrophobic and this is what causes the water to wick off the windshield when it rains. I love driving in the rain with that stuff on. I don't even have to use the windshield wipers.
It doesn't seem to last through too many washes as soap (which emulsifies) seems to take it off. I would think windex (esp. the ammonia containing one) would take it off pretty easily. |

Is rainx good on cleaning windows too? Maybe I'm not applying windex right, but everytime I use it, I end up with streaks all over!

Rain-x does work well. I've found that the Rain-X brand windshield washer fluid seems to make the rain-x I put on last longer. I think it's less abrasive than regular windshield washer fluid. Also, if you are cleaning your windows, the best thing to use is STONER Invisible Glass. By far the best window cleaner on the market. When wiping the cleaner off, use newspaper. Trust me it sounds weird but you will be highly satisfied when you get done.

Windex (non-automotive) has ammonia, not good for tint or for rubber. If you're using the automotive kind you're find on tint and rubber. Either will remove rain-x.

Dont use rain-x - You need to get AQUAPEL - This stuff is 1000% better and lasts for 8-10 months!!!

i had aquapel on my last ride, and i honestly was not impressed with the stuff.
as for rain-x, it works well, but just doesn't last long. so you gotta reapply it a lot. i still have some in my garage. i should stop being a lazy ass and put some on. as for cleaning windows and streaks... for the outside windows, i spray equal amounts of windex and water. i find it still does a good job cleaning and streaks a whole lot less. for the inside windows, i only use water and microfiber glass towel since i don't want to mess up my tint.

wwarmfie, in COMPLETE agreement with you about the newspaper, we used to use it in college for our windows before inspections and stuff, works on glass and mirrors too.
