Question Bank W/ No Minimum Balance In Account?

what banks offer free accounts without having a minimum balance? i just got a letter from HSBC saying we need $5,000 minimum in the account or they will charge $15 a month. i understand why they are doing it it is 100% bs imo.

what banks you guys with? any policy changes with yours?

i used to work for wachovia/wells fargo and they have a free accounts just need a $100 first deposit and no charges, checks arent free nor money orders or cashiers checks either...that letter is bc you signed up for one of the premier accounts that come with free stuff, but honestly i wouldnt bank with wachovia IMO, get a checking account with a credit union bc they have a faster proofing systems and deposits are put in faster as well as direct deposits, any other questions feel free to ask

Chase does offer one, you just need a direct deposit and 5 debit card transactions a month...almost ALL banks offer free checking with no balance or monthly charge, they are just selling you the "premier" checking accounts bc you guys have a higher balance than most people

Also depends on the type of account. If you earn an interest rate then there is almost always a minimum. My CU has the low minimum of $5 and earns decent interest.

Most checking accounts don't have minimums unless you get a ton of specialty perks as well.

Thats what it is. But they are douche bags. You have to go in every year or two and show them that you are still a student or your account magically turns into a non-student account and they start charging you. Gotta pay attention to your statements.

Most major banks these days offer basic free checking with minimum deposit. Usually $100.

There are online banks, which is becoming a trend. They offer greater degree of "benefits" compared to traditional brick-n-mortar banks. Look into some online ones if you don't have to visit the bank all the times. They usually have better reward programs, paid ATM fees, and many more. Spend 15 minutes on Kiplinger personal finance section, you will acquire all the knowledge you need.
