BMW Auto gearbox failure... Help please
Can anyone please help.
I keep getting the auto transmission failure light and the car goes into emergency mode. Two independant specialists have read the car and cannot find any error messages. They also say that this is not a mechanical failure with the gearbox and car is out of warranty. A full software upgrade has been recommended - the local indy garage can do that apparently. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas? Many thanks. |

Try the full software upgrade and see if it helps. I assume your independent is using an Autologic system to do the software change. If after that the automatic gearbox is still registering a fault, then I suggest that the gearbox control unit needs to be looked at as a second step, before going down the route of inspecting the gearbox itself. You might want to contact JPAT (www.jpat.co.uk) for an opinion - they are ZF automatic gearbox specialists
