Fallout paint problems
This is my second brand new BMW car and having had the same issues with the previous car which was eventually fixed I found yet more fallout marks. Upon receipt of my new car on Friday I pointed this out to the salesman to which he replied "that's just fallout".
Why do BMW think it should be acceptable to a customer to fork out the best part of £30,000 for a car with a finish that has blemishes on almost every panal. Sure it has been booked in to be fixed but if it is anything like the last time they will just stick a coat of wax on it and hope I don't notice. As if the paint isn't fragile enough when you get it you have to contend with it being pre-damaged before arriving. Does anybody else have similar experiences? |

so they using the ash as an excuse to not bother cleaning their cars?
it should be collected by you from INSIDE the dealership in PERFECT condition if thats the real reason imho. you should not be expected to accept issues with a brand new car. it should be perfect. so if they need to bring them all in and throw their demos out on the street to make sure the new deliveries are perfect then i have no idea why they aren't doing that. Keep the people who've already paid upwards of 30k happy. Sadly though that doesn't seem to be how it works. You've signed on the line so they don't give a f00k any more

Fallout Damage
The kind of fallout I am talking about is the type that occurs while delivering the vehicle. Most cars ( i am led to believe) are transported from continental Europe arrive via train. When the cars are parked up waiting to be loaded onto the train, railway fallout can land on the paint(fallout comes from little chards of steel from the train wheels rubbing off the tracks floating in the air) and when it rains it causes a dark red pinhead sized mark with a slight blue halo around it (like a pok mark). Both of my purchases direct from the BMW factory in 2007 and now in 2010 have arrived with these marks on almost every panal of the car,not good enough I am afraid.
Yeah I was ready for it this time but in 2007 I spent weeks wasting money and time trying to remedy the problem. |

Odd, I see a lot on transporters in the UK.
All have white plastic stuck on the upper surfaces for this reason. Hard to believe BMW doesnt do the same, crazy! |

When I picked up my silver LCI last year it had none of this and it was a built to order car I think it down to good prep work back at the dealer

Likewise, built to order (Midnight Blue), immaculate presentation by Park Lane.

My friend had his new Z4 35i delivered on a transporter from the dealership in London to here in Germany where he works - it was covered in swirl marks!
BMW are paying for a full detail but this is still unsatisfactory IMO and is down to poor prep work during PDI. My new car should be arriving mid to late July from the same dealer and believe me if it is not perfect then there will be trouble |

Hi Will, yes i could pick the car up from Munich but then the car will be classed as an import having not been pre registered in the UK - obviously this is very bad for resale etc. The car will basically get delivered to the UK dealership the same as any other UK car, get registered and PDI ed and then i can pick it up in London or get it transported to my sales rep in Germany - this option will cost me £350 but saves me the hastle/mileage on the car of picking it up in London and driving it back.

these little fallout marks can be removed by using detailing clay or by using fallout remover from autosmart. Be careful how the dealer deals with it, they could marr the paintwork if not done properly, but hopefully you can get it sorted out without any dramas
good luck. |

My current car was a special order and came straight from the factory - had fall out damage in terms of metal rail splinters in the paint (though I am informed BMW's come into the UK by boat - train's when being transferred in continental Europe) - easily fixed with clay. Previous one though had been stored for 6 months before it was bought by muggins and had huge problems with fallout damage in and on the paint - both at delivery and after.
It's one of those things - bit that pisses me off is that they think we won't notice - yeak, like feck after I've paid 40 k for a car I'm not going to notice! Good luck getting it sorted. |
