Launch Control?

This is really a question for shiv.

But just wanted to know how the launch control programing for the procede was comming along.

Also if theres any other companies offering a 2 step launch for the 335i right now?

Having the Launch control feature will really help distinguish the PROcede against competitors. I think it's something Vishnu should start focusing on since there's no use having all this torque if nobody can launch effectively.

the Procede is 100% compatable for launch control... I talked to shiv about it and he said it is jsut a matter of time that they will have it dialed in for everyone.

Actually, I believe that it will be only for the manual transmission cars. People have reported issues when power braking the automatic, which may impact the ability to use launch control on the automatics.

What issues have been reported? Obviously it isn't good to do a "brake stand"

Hi guys,
The way we implement launch control in the 335 may be a bit different since it is so traction limited even with the mildest of launches. What we are thinking of doing is yanking out boost and retarding timing in the first gear and gradually put it back in as the car speeds up. Basically keeping the car at the limit of adhesion automatically. So all the driver has to do is mash the throttle and hold on Like a performance orientated traction control of sorts.

And it should work for both the Step and the Manual

why cant you just dial in on what revs hold traction from a launch, limit it to those, and then once the car gets moving increase the rev limiter at a smooth but fast pace to hold traction? wouldnt that be a lot easier way, and yield a faster result?

plus i think that would be a lot easier for someone to tweek themselves vs. boost and timing

Because that approach couldn't be used on Step'd cars which more than half of our customers own

J/k... The real reason is that, unlike Subys and Evos, you simply can't bog these cars at the launch. Nor do you need to "build boost" since the turbos spool up nearly instantly. The logic we hope to come up with will essentially mazimize acceleration and monitoring wheelspin and adjusting boost/timing accordingly. I dont see how the traditional form of launch control that you described will help the wheelspin problem that happens at the 1-2 shift and again at the top of 2nd gear.
